Instructor, New Media FT Tenure Track
The SUNY Orange AAS New Media program has grown rapidly over the last three years and consistently attracts students who are drawn to the both the creative and technical aspects of new media and career opportunities in the field. The program provides a solid academic foundation as well as hands on technical skills applied in on-campus labs and through internships. We are proud of our students, about half of whom join the workforce after graduating and half of whom transfer to regional four-year institutions.
This position involves teaching a full schedule (30 credits per year) at the freshman/sophomore level consisting of a variety of Media and Communication courses (e.g. Media and Society; Introduction to Media Production; Digital Video: Post Production; TV Studio Production; Cinematography; Screenwriting; Sound Design; Visual Effects; Foundations of Communication) primarily at the Middletown, NY campus.
This position requires a wide range of professional responsibilities and activities, including participation in curriculum and course development, departmental planning, attendance at department and college meetings, participation on department and Governance committees, student advising and other duties as assigned.
This instructor will be expected to participate in College and Departmental assessment initiatives.
Teaching assignments may be on the Middletown or Newburgh campus or both, day or evening.
Job Requirements: Education Required: MA in Media Production, Communication, or related field
Experience Required: Demonstrated community college or university level experience teaching digital media including both television studio and field production.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics: Sound knowledge of current trends in media production. Knowledge of current industry-standard digital technology on various platforms such as After Effects, Premiere, Final Cut Pro, etc. Expertise, knowledge and/or experience to teach non-media communication courses Knowledge of current trends and strategies in designing communication / media curricula Ability to manage multiple projects as well as the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Experience with inclusive or culturally responsive pedagogy Experience teaching at the community college or college level Experience with D2L Brightspace or other comparable learning platform Ability to effectively establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, supervising personnel, co-workers, all college employees, and the public.
