POSITION SUMMARY
: The Senior Director of Internal Communications and Engagement has responsibility for internal communications and content development in support of Boston Medical Center's Health System's goals and priorities. In addition to developing, implementing and managing the internal communications program at BMC, the Senior Director supports the creation and distribution of strategic content across the Health System's channels that engage and unite BMC Health System employees and patients, including strategic and tactical support of the internal communications program at St. Elizabeth's and Good Samaritan Hospitals and WellSense health plan. The Senior Director works closely with C-suite leadership on the development of proactive and reactive communications for employees, including providers. The Senior Director will surface issues and develop campaigns/plans that will drive BMC Health System goals forward across internal channels and partner with colleagues to support efforts externally as appropriate. Reporting to the Vice President of Communications for BMC Health System, the Senior Director provides strategic internal communications support to internal stakeholders, editing and writing expertise, crisis management and after-hours emergency communications support for BMC Health System entities, as needed. Position: Senior Director Internal Communications and Engagement Department: Corporate Communications Schedule: Full Time ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: Responsible for the strategy and implementation of internal communications activities across the BMC Health System with a focus on evolving internal communications and engagement programs .
Proactively identify new opportunities to continually enhance and build the internal and provider communications program through strategy and tactics that help drive performance on Health System priorities while highlighting colleague and team accomplishments. Support the hospital Presidents and Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) in establishing a consistent communications program that informs and further engages the provider and administrative community. Assist in the establishment of consistent communications programs for key areas under the responsibility of the Executive Leadership Team. Actively engages with senior hospital and system leadership on development of internal communications strategy and activities around high profile initiatives and developments. Develops and executes tailored internal communications campaigns for priority audiences, which may include events and meetings. Responsible for auditing and measuring internal content and channels effectiveness using metrics/analytics and staff and leadership feedback, and adapting channels to meet the evolving needs of the health system (e.g., expanding the intranet platform) Own strategy and results for keeping employees in all off-site locations informed on important organizational news and updates in a timely, relevant, and engaging manner. Working in partnership with HR and other internal stakeholders (e.g. Nursing/Ambulatory), cultivate creative and innovative ideas to inform, motivate, and engage employees through multiple channels. Conceives approach and content for quarterly Town Hall meetings; staffs and supports monthly leadership meetings; drafts CEO communications and presentations. Oversees execution and strategy of recognition events, including engagement events such as the Annual Service Awards and Be Exceptional. Supervises and mentors junior staff who manage the day-to-day internal communications activities and channels. Provides after-hours emergency communications support as-needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree required; CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: None EXPERIENCE: Requires a minimum of ten years of related communications strategy experience. At least five years of executive engagement and management of a team is preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA): Strategic Communications Planning, Executive Writing and Communications Strategy, Team and Vendor Management Strategic mindset, highly organized and excellent stakeholder management ability Works well with ambiguity and has the ability to connect points of information to drive communication strategy Collaborative and calm under pressure Proven ability to translate a corporate strategic plan into values-consistent, compelling and propelling communications strategy and engagement Ability to translate complex and technical topics into compelling communications Experience managing and mentoring staff Capable of program development, implementations and evaluation Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills Must be highly organized to manage multiple priorities Dedicated team player with the willingness and desire to learn and grow within the organization Proficient in standard client software in a healthcare office setting (i.e., MS Word, Excel, Access, Web Browsers, etc.)
