Position Description: The Adrianna Papell Group is seeking a very talented and knowledgeable Senior Designer to join its dynamic Sportwear and Better Separates Division. Under the direction of the Design Director, this role is responsible for the design and development of the Adrianna Papell branded sportswear collections such as knits, wovens, sweaters, pants, jackets, and dresses that align with its brand aesthetic and DNA. This is a multi-faceted design role that includes key design, development, and production functions as well as business strategy. The Senior Designer will collaborate across departments and mentor junior designers to bring innovative designs of elevated sportswear pieces from concept to production in accordance with target prices. The ideal candidate is super creative and has strong design experience in private label and in the off-price retail space.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all design projects from concept to delivery.
  • Bring creativity and newness to the collection.
  • Design original pieces and executie styles from the beginning to the production.
  • Research current fashion trends and determine consumers’ likes.
  • Ability to test and decide on fabrics, colors, prints, yarn, texture for each style.
  • Draw illustrator sketches for new products and being able to demonstrate tech packs with detailed explanations and needed layouts using PLM system.
  • Have PLM expertise to make tech packs.
  • Sketch rough and detailed designs of all sportswear categories such as knits, wovens, sweaters, pants, jackets, and dresses.
  • Create and develop layouts, knit swatches and samples.
  • Research fabric, yarn, texture, trim, and develop design ideas using this research
  • Ability to lead and engage in all fittings by, among other things, evaluating fit, functionality and style and modify designs to achieve desired effects.
  • Work collaboratively with a Design Director to manage garment fit and all related design and fit documents and approvals.
  • Review proto samples with the design director and confirm all design developments are done properly and in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with overseas vendors on lab-dip, bulk swatch, trim, and sample status to ensure that the overall design process is followed.
  • Communicate with overseas vendors regarding material information, sourcing details and counter-sourcing.
  • Supervise and/or maintain style tracking information for each style through the development and production processes.

Qualifications:

  • 8-10+ years design experience, with management experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design or Fine Arts.
  • Strong design and conceptual skills with the off price market retailers.
  • Strong computer knowledge including illustrator and Photoshop, PLM a plus.
  • Ability to design around concepts with a strong sense of style and color.
  • Thorough knowledge of silhouettes, fabrication, colorways, textiles, graphics, embroidery and trim.
  • Strong organizational, time management, communication and presentation skills.
  • Pattern making/garment construction knowledge and experience.
  • Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questions from overseas offices and other associates.
  • Understanding of garment costing, sourcing and production.
  • Ability to train and develop junior members of Design Team.
