This is a non-exempt (hourly) position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity.

The Myers Park Library serves a close-knit community in Charlotte’s historic Myers Park neighborhood. As the city’s oldest library, it is a cherished institution offering specialized, high-level research assistance, Readers’ Advisory services, and personalized technology support.

The Library Associate works within the branch team to create a welcoming environment for youth services, leading age-appropriate programs for children. This position represents the library in the community and facilitates outreach to various area partners. The Library Associate participates in systemwide teams and works collaboratively with staff in Children’s Services.

Schedule: Includes a minimum of one evening shift per week and a rotating weekend schedule.

Position Summary: Perform professional and technical library work in one or more specific library programs such as Youth Services. The Library Associate delivers a high level of quality library services ensuring value-added experiences for all customers.

Essential Functions:

  1. Programming for children ages 0 - 12
  2. Build and maintain relationships with outreach sites and partnerships
  3. Prepare monthly program reports and statistics
  4. Provide research assistance to customers
  5. Utilize integrated library systems software
  6. Provide service desk coverage
  7. Maintain library’s collection of materials
  8. Promote and market library’s programs
  9. Create and maintain attractive bulletin boards and displays

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of two years of library, retail, education, or customer service experience
  2. High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bilingual - Spanish communication skills
  2. Experience working with youth

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of alpha-numeric sorting systems and various library systems
  2. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  3. Excellent time management skills with attention to detail

Computer Skills: Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.

Work Environment: Works in an office setting with moderate noise and travel to outreach locations.
