Dreamscape Learn, a pioneer in the realm of immersive virtual reality learning design, is actively seeking a Texture Artist to create realistic and stylized textures that bring depth and character to our 3D environments, props, and characters. This is a 1099 contract role.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality, detailed textures and materials for 3D assets, including characters, props, and environments, tailored for VR.
  • Collaborate with environment artists, character artists, and technical teams to create visually consistent and immersive designs.
  • Use tools such as Substance Painter/Designer, Photoshop, and ZBrush to produce textures for both organic and hard-surface assets.
  • Optimize textures for real-time performance while maintaining artistic quality, ensuring seamless integration in game engines (i.e., Unity).
  • Create tileable and procedural materials, including normal maps, roughness, and ambient occlusion, to enhance realism and visual impact.
  • Work with the lighting and rendering teams to ensure textures perform well under various lighting conditions in VR.
  • Iterate on designs based on feedback from creative leads and art directors.
  • Stay current with industry trends, tools, and techniques in texture creation and real-time graphics.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Texture Artist in entertainment (games, film, animation, or VR).
  • Proficiency with texturing tools like Substance Painter, Substance Designer, Photoshop, and ZBrush.
  • Experience working with Unity.
  • Strong understanding of PBR (Physically Based Rendering) workflows, including material creation, lighting, and shader principles.
  • Strong research skills with the ability to source, analyze, and creatively interpret historical, scientific, and existing references to inform artistic work.
  • Ability to create both stylized and photorealistic textures.
  • Knowledge of UV mapping, texture baking, and optimization techniques for VR and other real-time platforms.
  • Strong artistic eye for detail, color, and composition.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and adapt to evolving creative needs.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience creating assets optimized for both high-end and low-end devices, ensuring performance and visual quality across various platforms.
  • Experience in procedural material creation with tools like Houdini.
  • Familiarity with VR-specific constraints and optimization techniques.
  • Concept art or surface design experience to support asset prototyping.
  • Understanding of shader development and lighting workflows.

Benefits

Monthly rate: $5,000-$6,750 (DOE)
