Prescott Memorial Library invites applicants for the position of Education and Human Sciences Librarian.
The Education and Human Sciences Librarian is one of Prescott Memorial Library's liaison librarians to each of Louisiana Tech University's five colleges. This liaison librarian builds working relationships, communicates and collaborates with administrators, faculty, and students in the College of Education and Human Sciences in order to meet their curricular, research, and accreditation needs. This liaison librarian selects and deselects information resources in Education (Curriculum, Instruction, and Leadership), Psychology, Counseling, Kinesiology, Fashion Merchandising and Retail Studies, and Human Development and Family Science with responsibility for developing and managing these collections in consultation with the College's administrators and faculty. This liaison librarian provides research consultation, subject-specific information services, and course-related instruction to students and faculty in these academic departments. As a member of the Research Services Team, this librarian also provides general information services to all Library users and supervises support staff and student assistants.
This is a 12-month tenure-track faculty appointment at a rank and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Selects and deselects information resources appropriate to meet curricular
and research needs in consultation with College of Education and Human
Sciences faculty.
•Provides research consultation and subject-specific information services
to students and faculty in the College of Education and Human Sciences.
Also provides general information services to all Library users.
•Designs, develops, and delivers course-related instruction in-person or
virtually.
•Supervises support staff and student assistants.
•Meets tenure requirements of research and scholarship as well as service
to the University, the Library, and the profession.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited
program.
•Undergraduate degree or relevant experience in Education, Psychology,
Counseling, Kinesiology, Fashion Merchandising and Retail Studies, or
Human Development and Family Science.
•At least one to two years of relevant work experience in an academic or
research library, or an equivalent combination of education and/or
professional academic experience.
•Demonstrated experience in public services, providing user-centered
information services and/or course-related instruction in an academic or
research library.
•Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team within a
culturally diverse user community of students, faculty and staff.
•Effective organizational and time management skills in order to perform
tasks and to meet deadlines.
•Effective oral and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Graduate degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Kinesiology, Fashion
Merchandising and Retail Studies, or Human Development and Family
Science.
•More than two years of relevant work experience in an academic or
research library.
•Experience developing and delivering course-related instruction in both in-
person and virtual environments.
•Supervisory experience.

Centrally located on campus, the Library occupies nine floors of Wyly Tower which is connected to its original three story building. Collections total 3.9 million items, including 2,000 serials and 40,000 maps. A Regional Federal Depository Library, Prescott Memorial Library is also a historical depository for Louisiana state documents. The Special Collections, Manuscripts, and Archives on the fourth floor preserves rare books, manuscripts, maps and other materials, including collections documenting the history of Louisiana Tech University and the region.
Prescott Memorial Library is a member of LOUIS, the consortium of public and private college and university libraries in Louisiana.
