Church of the Annunciation in Kearney, MO is a small to medium sized parish about 30 minutes north of Kansas City seeking to hire a full-time Director of Liturgy and Music. The Director of Liturgy and Music will have a thorough understanding of Roman Catholic liturgy and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of liturgy including recruiting and scheduling liturgical ministers. This person also serves the parish as principal musician, keyboardist and choir director. Working with many volunteers, the Director of Liturgy and Music is responsible for providing quality liturgical celebrations that enhance the most active participation of the multi-generational faithful of our parish.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Function as principal keyboardist and choir director: chimes, youth and adult choirs
  • Provide music and musicians for all weekend Masses, Holy Days, Funeral Masses, Baptisms, Funerals, Confirmation Mass, First Communion Mass, Reconciliation Services, etc.
  • Provide music to enhance our prayerful liturgy, spanning the interests of multi-generations.
  • Plan special liturgies throughout the year in coordination with the Pastor
  • Consult with families preparing for funerals/weddings for liturgical planning: musicians, ministers, music, readings, and petitions.
  • Write/compose intercessory prayers for weekend Masses, holy days, funerals, weddings.
  • Oversees the Mass intentions.
  • Maintain up to date Missals, Lectionary and prayer books and is knowledgeable of the liturgical cycle of Mass readings.
  • Demonstrates understanding of liturgical documents and keeps up do date with liturgical directives from the Bishop.
  • Maintain Sacrament Records of the parish and is knowledgeable of those requirements and mandates.
  • Provide leadership and hands on help to the volunteers who create the prayerful environment for weekend Masses, liturgical seasons and Holy Days of Obligation.
  • Assuring all liturgical supplies are well stocked and ordered.
  • Oversee the two sacristies of the church, restocking and replenishing all necessary liturgical supplies and overseeing volunteers who care for cloths.
  • Maintains candles and holy water fonts.
  • Recruit, train and supply ongoing formation of liturgical ministers: Keyboardists, Cantors, Sacristans, Altar Servers, Ushers, Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.
  • Knowledgeable in database system Ministry Scheduler Pro to create ministry schedule for weekend Masses and holy days of obligation with multiple notification formats: printed documents, email, and online database.
  • Maintain current directory information for all liturgical ministers.
  • Communicate well with ministers for all liturgical needs, planning well in advance of liturgical seasons.
  • Coordinate and train Eucharistic Ministers needed for homebound parishioners, as well as scheduling monthly Masses at the two assisted living facilities.
  • Work with multiple generations, aiding those with limited computer skill or access.
  • Manage the sound system and microphones.
  • Maintain piano and organ in good order.
  • Updates and keeps current needed worship subscriptions and licenses.
  • Work with volunteers for devotions and prayer services such as monthly Adoration.
  • Work with business manager to create and sustain budget for liturgy and music.
  • Attend staff meetings and report on liturgical needs and upcoming important dates.
  • Values prayer life as necessary foundation for successful liturgical ministry.


Qualifications:
  • Respect and uphold Catholic Church teaching.
  • Ideally practicing Catholic with ethical standards, personal integrity, and conduct consistent with the morals and teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Degree in music and/or liturgy; or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of Church documents that govern and direct liturgy and sacred music.
  • Ability and desire to lead and sustain a program of quality congregational singing.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels and ages of employees and volunteers.
  • Able to honor and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong computer skills.
