POSITION SUMMARY :
The Ophthalmic Photographer performs all of the photography and angiography for the department of Ophthalmology. The department is currently utilizing digital imaging systems, so a strong background and base knowledge in digital file handling is a must. Participates in the care of patients in a clinical setting by performing various ophthalmic examinations; scheduling appointments and maintaining patient medical records. Responsibilities also include organizing and prioritizing work to ensure completion in a timely manner. Photographers report directly to the ophthalmic technician supervisor.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Greets patients and gathers demographic information and documents in the medical record.
Performs all types of ophthalmic photography, e.g., fundus, external and anterior segment.
Assists physicians by performing diagnostic tests, e.g., specular microscopy, OCT, Pentacam and Optos.
Regularly maintains work area and equipment in a neat and orderly manner; assists in the cleaning and organizing of the Center’s section on own initiative and reports any malfunctioning equipment as observed by supervisor.
Working towards learning basic ophthalmology workups. Once proficient and has completed the Ophthalmic Technician I competency checklist, assists the clinic as needed with workups.
Must be able to effectively troubleshoot and proficiently perform the following key devices within six months:
Optos fundus camera
DRS fundus camera
Heidelberg OCT
Zeiss OCT
Pentacam

JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
BS preferred, High School diploma or GED required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
None
EXPERIENCE:
One year of previous work experience in Photography or optometric technician designation required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Ability to manage patient workflow, multitask and think productively under pressure.
Requires the interpersonal skills necessary to relate to patients in a sympathetic and tactful manner and allay patient apprehensions.
Excellent English communication skills (oral and written). Bilingual or multi-lingual skills (beyond that of English) appropriate to the patient population served is a plus.
