About The Role
As an Associate or Senior Editor with a strong background in a biomedical science discipline, you will contribute to the success of the BMC Series by handling editorial content and by driving the development of two journals, BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies, & BMC Pharmacology and Toxicology.

Communication is a key part of this role, as you will need to build excellent and productive relationships with the external Editorial Board who manage the peer review process and with internal teams responsible for journal editorial office support.

The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis, and will be located in our New York or Philadelphia office.

Role Responsibilities:

1. Oversee content published in BMC Series journals, advising editorial board members and handling individual submissions yourself.
2. Identify and commission reviews, collections and supplements.
3. Investigate and resolve publishing/research ethics cases, both pre- and post-publication, with the guidance of Springer Nature Research Integrity Group when needed.
4. Build and maintain excellent relationships with Editorial Board Members and authors, hosting editorial board meetings.
5. Contribute to the recruitment and training of new editorial board members, ensuring they are aware of the ethos and editorial policies of BMC Series.
6. Promote journal content and features.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

1. Educated to PhD or MD level or equivalent in a relevant field (research experience in complementary medicine and therapies or pharmacology or toxicology are desirable).
2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.
3. Ability to critically assess manuscripts across a range of topics for novelty, scientific content, and their implications.
4. Excellent time management and prioritization skills, able to balance short-term deadlines with long-term goals.
5. Previous solid editorial experience in scientific publishing is needed to be considered for the Senior Editor level.

US Annualized Base Salary Range: Associate Editor: $80,000 | Senior Editor: $95,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
