About the Role
We are currently seeking a Deputy Editor with research and editorial experience to join Communications Biology, a multidisciplinary open access biology journal. The new Deputy Editor will work alongside the current Deputy Editor and Chief Editor to lead the journal’s editorial board strategy.
Role Responsibilities:
- Overseeing the journal’s Collections program.
- Growing the editorial board to ensure adequate subject area coverage.
- Ensuring Editorial Board Members receive appropriate training and support.
- Overseeing and developing Editorial Board Member engagement.
- Line management of Associate/Senior Editors.
- Handling original research papers and working closely with other editors on the editorial process.
- Liaising with editors at other journals in the Nature Portfolio family.
- Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.
- Commissioning Reviews and Comment articles and writing Editorials.
- Ensuring Production receives manuscripts in an appropriate and complete state.
- Other tasks as required.
To be considered for the position, you will have:
- A PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant biology discipline.
- Previous experience coordinating peer review and making independent manuscript decisions.
- Experience of working with an external editorial board is highly desirable.
- A genuine passion for scientific communication.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- An eagerness to engage with scientists worldwide.
- Strong workload management and organisational skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Thorough knowledge of the scientific community and its needs.

Springer Nature US provides a comprehensive and competitive benefits package.
US Annualized Base Salary Range: $110,000 - $125,000.
