Job Summary:

The role of Technical Writer will be responsible for writing, rewriting and/or editing technical documents, and publishing such as technical procedure manuals, software user manuals, operational specifications, configuration manuals, and related technical publications to communicate technical specifications and instructions clearly and effectively to a wide range of audiences. In addition, the Technical Writer will participate in peer reviews or editing documentation with other authors and will be assisting new products initiatives by tailoring product documentation for individual user requirements and recommending formats responsive to technical and customer requirements.

The Sr. Specialist Technical Writer is a senior professional with strong knowledge of job area and broad knowledge of project management, manages complex projects or processes with general oversight, communicates within and outside of own function to gain cooperation on operational processes, practices, and procedures. They make moderate to substantial improvements to systems and processes and contribute to the achievement of departmental goals and operating plans with direct impact on the departmental results.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Responsibilities:
  • Ability to manage revolving and shifting deadlines and meeting schedules for multiple assigned programs teams with minimal coordination by Manager
  • Proficient to advanced level of consistency in documentation quality with minimal supervision and need for correction
  • Established method of effective project management with general supervision
  • Ability to comprehend, assimilate, and document numerous software applications
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills inside and outside own department
  • Expert grammar skills
  • Understanding of technical writing conventions and advanced documentation layout and formatting skills
  • Ability to comprehend and clearly communicate complex technical data
  • Advanced data organizational skills; ability to link content across topics
  • Highly motivated, independent individual demonstrating willingness to learn technical nature of the industry
  • Ability to produce documentation in accordance with established style guides
  • Comply with and suggest improvements to document configuration management processes
  • Research, propose, and implement more effective customer-specific documentation, system, and process solutions
  • Actively participate in and integrate on teams committed to continuous improvement


Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
  • Bachelor's degree (STEM preferred) and 6 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Graduate degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • Experience with Adobe RoboHelp and the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Looking for experience with at least one other desktop publishing tools, such as: Camtasia, Word, MadCap, WebX, or Captivate.


Preferred Skills, Experience, and Education:
  • Experience in Agile, iterative development, and/or SCRUM development.
  • Experience documenting software releases, interactive technical manuals, Quick Reference Guides, Training Materials, and Help Sites.
  • Experience with software code, especially HTML, CSS, XML, or JSON.
  • Experience producing interactive media to support software & hardware (system level) documentation.
  • Experience in API documentation and understanding of a Software Development Kit (SDK).
