Bilingual (English/Spanish) Youth Services Library Associate
Job Description
The Bilingual Youth Services Associate provides excellent customer service to patrons at all public service points and assists with the operations of the library, particularly for Spanish speaking users. This position also develops and implements children’s programs in both English and Spanish and is required to support library goals.
Reports to: Department Supervisor, Branch Manager
Essential Functions
- Assumes all duties of the circulation desk including assisting patrons to locate information or access library services in person and over the phone. Registers and orients new library users to library services, technology, and procedures. Maintains patron accounts and records.
- Shelves materials, weeds library collection and shelf reads to maintain a quality collection. Straightens shelves, maintains displays and ensures department is orderly.
- Works with large numbers of children in a classroom or program setting as well as one on one.
- Assists in development and implementation of children’s, teens, and family programs and events including the Summer Reading Program.
- Plans and implements regular storytimes, craft events, and topical programs within the library and at outreach locations.
- Provides basic Reader’s Advisory and Informational services to patrons.
- Assists with and conducts outreach events.
- Provides support services for library operations as assigned.
- Creates print and online promotional materials to promote library programs and services.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education/experience mix required.
- Bilingual (English / Spanish) – highly proficient in conversational English and Spanish.
- Highly proficient in written English.
- Experience working with children and ability to relate well with children of all ages.
- Experience in customer service is a plus.
- Basic computer competency and typing skills including familiarity with Internet, email, word processing, graphics, multimedia, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required and provide own transportation to outreach locations as needed.
- Completion of a background check meeting library standards.
Salary: $20.80-$27.60 per hour
