Work Location: Central Library, 1301 Barcarrota Boulevard, Bradenton, Florida 34205
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays based on library needs)
Manages day-to-day operations of a branch library location within the Manatee County Library System or manages a specific work section at Central Library. Ensures effective and efficient delivery of traditional and innovative library services, as applicable to area of assignment. Assigns work and delegates responsibilities to staff and monitors progress to ensure goals are met and high-quality customer service is maintained.
Working Conditions
Indoor library situation. Extended periods of sitting and standing regularly required. Lifting equipment and books up to 25 lbs. alone; up to 50 lbs. with assistance. Able to push book truck weighing up to 30 pounds and shelve books. May be assigned to any Manatee County Public Library System location. Regularly required to work other than normal business hours.

The Community Engagement Department Head is responsible for overseeing the library's public engagement and outreach services, home-bound delivery, and bookmobile operations. This position plays a crucial role in expanding the library's presence in the community, awareness of library services, and reaching diverse populations. Must have the ability to build strong and lasting community connections. The Community Engagement Department Head will also engage regular outreach, public speaking and presentations to community groups and civic organizations.
Physical requirements: Bending, lifting up to 40 pounds and standing for long periods of time, in and out of doors.
Work Environment: Varies greatly; examples include but are not limited to an office environment, outside, tabling in the public spaces, and full days from a bookmobile.

Responsible for administrative and operational functions for assigned section or branch. Addresses internal and external behavioral issues, accidents, and incidents, interacting with law enforcement, risk management, emergency services, and mental health providers as needed.
Interprets and enforces relevant County and Library policies and procedures to the public.
Sets goals and objectives for team members for achievement of operational results. Assigns work and delegates responsibilities to staff and monitors progress to ensure goals are met and high-quality customer service is maintained. Hires, trains, coaches, appraises, and rewards assigned staff. Responds appropriately to employee complaints and issues. Cultivates strong working relationships and builds trust among team members.
Reviews and recommends new methods and procedures to make daily operations more efficient. Performs considerable short-term and long-term planning, scheduling, and coordinating within area of responsibility. Recommends policy or services changes to Library Administration.
Assists with the development of the annual budget for assigned section or branch. Monitors revenue and expenses and allocates fiscal resources appropriately.
Acts as library liaison, representing the library at County, Friends, and community meetings and participating in community outreach events. Develops and maintains community contacts. Makes public presentations as requested.
Serves as a member of the Library Leadership Team. Facilitates the mission of the library. Contributes to a collaborative vision for the library and exhibits a strong commitment to innovative user-centered service.
Prepares monthly, annual and special reports and statistical reports.
Maintains current knowledge of professional library issues, developments, materials, and equipment with emphasis on current and future trends in technology and literacy. Also maintains current knowledge of specific area of assignment. Attends training and meetings and participates in professional library organizations.
Performs other related work, including weather or emergency duties, as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in library science from a university or college accredited by the American Library Association.
Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in a library system.
Three (3) or more years of supervisory experience, which can include supervision of volunteers.
Valid driver license required, with valid Florida driver license required within 30 days of hire.
