About the Agency The mission of the Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP) is to serve the citizens of Virginia by enhancing public safety throughout the Commonwealth.

About the Position The Communications Coordinator will provide coordination of the agency's communications for both internal and external customers as well as: •Support the Marketing and Communications Manager with writing and distribution of public-facing and employee communications and event planning. •Responsible for marketing the agency through social media channels, printed materials, and email list serves. •Assist with strategic development and management of the agency social media marketing plan. •Monitor and track media/social media outlets. •Maintain contact lists and marketing records. •Assist with execution of projects as directed by the Agency Executive Leadership.

This is an hourly wage position with no benefits. This position may work up to 29 hours a week, but no more than a maximum of 1500 working hours allowed in a 12-month period from May 1 to April 30.

Minimum Qualifications •Knowledge of public relations techniques and its application to state government. •General understanding of public communications/public a airs and marketing; and a desire to gain extensive experience in public communications in a fast -paced setting. •Demonstrated ability to write using the Associated Press (AP) Style, write content for and design electronic materials for use on websites and social media, and develop and execute comprehensive and measurable communications plans. •Experience in PC based graphics software and related publishing and photographic editing software. •Experience demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. •Demonstrated experience with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and other related software. •Knowledge of e-mail marketing systems. •Demonstrated experience developing communications strategies.

Additional Considerations •Experience in Marketing, Mass Media, Public A airs, or related field.

Must possess Virginia Driver's License.
