WHO ARE WEThe Office of Communications is responsible for providing media information, public information and internal support services for the Texas Department of Agriculture. Division staff members keep the public informed of TDA activities and agriculture issues via traditional and social media channels.

WHAT YOU'LL DOThe Digital Media Specialist will perform complex duties related to the conception, design creation, development, and production of media (such as audio, photography, video, graphics, multimedia, and other forms of digital media). Your responsibilities may include conceptualizing, developing, designing, producing, editing, and/or directing a media project; or the operation, maintenance, and/or oversight of media facilities, production, and/or distribution-related activities. You will work closely with the Director of Communications to assist with managing, designing, and creating digital media to fulfill the agency's mission and disseminate critical information to the public. You will serve as the agency's primary audio specialist. You will also contribute towards agency productions as a videographer, photographer. You will work under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible for the development, execution, and delivery of digital media for the agency and ensuring a professional standard for all digital content captured or created.

Create digital content related to agency personnel, duties, programs, and mission for use in TDA digital and traditional media outreach efforts.

Record, produce, and edit audio productions for radio and video utilizing professional equipment, including the use of Adobe Audition and related Adobe Creative Suite software. This will include the production of a long-form agriculture podcast and weekly TDA radio show production and any additional agency audio promotional materials.

Assist in the production of the Texas Agriculture Matters Television show filling roles such as videographer, editor, and producer.

Record, produce and edit video utilizing professional equipment, including the use of professional video and audio production equipment and software included in the Adobe Creative Suite.

Process still images utilizing professional equipment, including the use of Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, and related Adobe Creative Suite software.

Develop processes to organize and appropriately manage all TDA digital content, including those assets available for public use via the website or other online channels and those assets for internal agency use.

Capture, download and organize TDA and Commissioner TV/Radio appearances for public use and or archival purposes.

Measure the effectiveness, use and relevance of information products and provide input and recommendations to the Director of Communications on constituent utilization of electronic materials.

Research various sources to obtain information to ensure the accuracy of any digital content released by the agency.

Follow all TDA policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITIONBachelor's degree in Mass Communications, Electronic Media, Digital Media Graphic Design, Film, fine arts or related field. (One year of work experience related to the primary duties may substitute for one year of college.)

Two (2) years' experience in capturing, editing, mixing, and producing quality audio and video content that may include event coverage, interviews, news, and social media content.

Two (2) years' experience in operating professional studio audio capture and mixing equipment for live radio, television, or podcast production.

Experience with Adobe Creative Suite applications, including Adobe Audition,Pro Tools or other similar audio editing software.

PREFERREDExperience producing, capturing, and mixing professional radio or podcast productions.

Experience with digital DSLR photography capture at events, news, and portraits.

Experience with graphic design and social media content creation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESKnowledge of Adobe Creative Suite; Adobe Premiere; Adobe Lightroom; Adobe Photoshop, standard web marketing concepts, practices, and procedures; and of the principles of audio design, audio capture, audio mixing, still and video photographic techniques, and production methods and procedures.

Skill in creating social media graphics as well as editing photos, audio, and video; in visual design; Mac operating systems and Adobe Premiere video editing and Adobe Audition audio editing software; and in providing customer service excellence to both internal and external customers.

Ability to maintain digital content on social media; shoot video and stills with professional digital cameras; use the elements of design to create page layouts; to perform image editing; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines while maintaining extreme attention to detail; compose materials for the Web; manage a diverse range of projects simultaneously; and to exercise sound judgment and discretion.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONSNormal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping, and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be able to work extended periods at a computer and may require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed. May involve travel (up to 40%* of the work period), occasionally overnight.
