The Milken Institute's events and programmatic activities, involve the exchange of ideas with leaders from around the world. The Institute hosts more than 200 events each year, with our annual flagship event, Global Conference, bringing together 4,500+ participants from around the world, featuring more than 900+ speakers throughout 200+ sessions over the course of the event.
About the Position
We are seeking a skilled Director of Audio Engineering to ensure the seamless operation of audio systems in our events and conference center. This role involves configuring, maintaining, and optimizing professional audio equipment, including Shure microphones, Allen & Heath mixers, and Riedel Bolero intercom systems. The ideal candidate will lead a team and establish best practices, proactively address technical challenges, and stay ahead of industry advancements to ensure a superior audio experience for all events.

Working Conditions & Travel Requirements
This position will work in a professional office environment on a hybrid schedule consisting of three (3) days per week reporting in-person to the Washington, DC, office location (Tuesday - Thursday), with the remaining two (2) days working remotely. Please understand, this schedule is subject to change at the Institute's sole discretion.
This person will also be required to travel occasionally to other offices and/or venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. Additionally, this position requires interacting virtually on a regular basis with Milken Institute staff based in other locations in the United States and around the world.

Responsibilities
- Ensure smooth system operation by configuring and maintaining audio systems for various events.
- Program and optimize Shure wireless microphone systems for consistent and reliable performance.
- Manage and maintain Allen & Heath mixing consoles, ensuring proper setup for live events and conferences.
- Oversee Riedel Bolero intercom systems, ensuring clear and efficient communication for production teams.
- Develop and implement best practices for audio system usage, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Identify and resolve audio issues proactively, minimizing disruptions during live events.
- Collaborate with event technicians and production teams to translate technical needs into practical solutions.
- Stay up to date with industry advancements, integrating new technologies and best practices into operations.
- Maintain detailed technical documentation of system configurations, workflows, and troubleshooting guides.
- Duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Extensive experience with Shure wireless systems, including frequency coordination and RF management.
- Proficiency in Allen & Heath digital mixers, including scene management, routing, and processing.
- Familiarity with Riedel Bolero intercom systems, including setup, programming, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of audio signal flow, DSPs, networked audio (Dante, AES67), and live event production.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues quickly in high-pressure environments.
- Experience in establishing best practices for audio system maintenance and operation.
- Strong communication skills to train and support event technicians and end users.
- Passion for keeping up with emerging audio technologies and industry trends.
