Producer, Special Projects

Location: This role is remote and can be based anywhere in the US, except for Alaska and Hawaii.

Job Summary:

The Producer will play a pivotal role in understanding audience wants and needs and creating a connection between USA TODAY’s portfolio of products and their lives. The position requires strong writing and editing skills, proficiency in visual social media platforms, and the ability to understand audience listening across various platforms and tools. Video editing experience is a plus. The Producer will collaborate with The Special Projects Manager and colleagues across multiple newsrooms to ensure the right journalism reaches the desired audiences. This is a broad-ranging position that brings new challenges and frequent opportunities to experiment, learn, and iterate.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with colleagues in multiple newsrooms to plan and create content in multiple formats that reaches audiences where they are.
  • Create original content such as social graphics, social videos, or quizzes, ensuring they are relevant and engaging for our audiences.
  • Curate, write, and manage topical newsletters, ensuring they contain relevant and timely content for our audience.
  • Use metrics to monitor real-time audience engagement, making data-driven adjustments to tactical execution of the strategies.
  • Develop and execute social media campaigns to engage and grow our online community, using analytics to measure success and inform future strategies.
  • Coordinate and coach journalists, helping them produce engaging and shareable content for social platforms and newsletters.
  • Use independent judgment in day-to-day activities.

Required Skills:

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with a focus on digital content and the ability to adapt to changing trends and technologies.
  • Proficiency in SEO and social media optimization, with a commitment to continuous experimentation across emerging platforms, including AI.
  • Experience working in a digital news publishing environment, with a keen interest in emerging digital tools and platforms.
  • Ability to analyze audience metrics and use the data to inform the work.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with multimedia content editing.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2-5 years of related work experience.
  • Experience working in a digital news publishing environment.
  • Social video editing experience is a plus.
  • Experience with analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Parse.ly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.

The hourly rate for this role will range between $25.48 and $29.30. Variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location, and union representation, if applicable.
