Software Resources has an immediate job opportunity for a Copy Editor with a major corporation, on-site in Washington, DC. Monday to Thursday is onsite and Friday remote.

Must Haves:
This a Copy Editor role NOT Text Editor. Seeking candidates with experience as Copy Editor. This role will require the Copy Editor to read articles for grammar and proper usage, implementing the house style. The candidate should also become familiar with the company's specific style manual. The team follows the Merriam Webster style guide NOT AP or Chicago manual. The ideal candidate would have around five years of experience, but they are open to considering more junior candidates with two to three years of experience. Preferred education: Bachelor's degree (English, journalism, communications, or a related field). The copy editor will work in an open office space with their own desk but the department is windowless due to current construction underway. Work hours are generally 9:00 to 5:30 but this is flexible since this position does not require attending meetings. Monday to Thursday is onsite and Friday remote. The team uses MAC so candidate must be comfortable (if they come from publishing this should not be an issue). Dress code is business casual/jeans ok, but neat.
Description : The copy editor works collaboratively with both print and online editorial teams, applying outstanding knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and English usage, and meeting tight deadlines. With guidance from our Style Manual, the copy editor applies house style and makes other copy edits to assigned feature stories and department pages within various publications as assigned, including the bimonthly History magazine, themed bookazine publications, and the monthly magazine. This includes detailed attention to the main text, captions, and notes accompanying original art and maps.
Responsibilities :
Managing the copyediting process in an article while keeping an eye on the production dates and workflow processes. Evaluates and modifies procedures for consistency with editorial objectives and needs across products, ensuring efficient, flexible, and timely completion of work. Responsible for final proofreading of assigned magazine articles and their online versions. Basic Qualifications: At least five years of relevant magazine or newspaper copyediting experience, ideally including at least one year working in an online publishing environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Outstanding knowledge of language, grammar, and usage. Experience with print publishing platforms, including K4 or a similar workflow system, and InDesign/InCopy. Some experience in online content management systems is helpful. Preferred Education:
Bachelor's degree (English, journalism, communications, or a related field).
