(with potential for extension) Location: Washington, D.C. (Onsite Mondays-Thursdays & Remote on Fridays) Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM Compensation: $28 to $34.48 per hour Job Overview: We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Research Editor to join our client's editorial team on a contract basis. The Research Editor will be responsible for verifying the accuracy, fairness, and suitability of all editorial material published in a national publication and special magazine projects. The role involves fact-checking articles, captions, and other content to ensure credibility and accuracy, while working closely with editors, writers, and other stakeholders. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Research Editor to contribute to high-quality editorial content while working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities: Verify and substantiate all statements of fact, data, historical information, and identities in editorial content using reputable sources. Work collaboratively with editors, writers, photographers, legal teams, and subject matter experts. Communicate with specialists in government agencies, academic institutions, and industries to confirm facts. Identify factual inconsistencies and suggest revisions while preserving the writers tone and style. Demonstrate keen attention to detail, recognizing nuances and implications within the text. Anticipate research needs and proactively address legal concerns such as liability, bias, plagiarism, and copyright issues. Basic Qualifications: Bachelors degree strongly preferred; candidates without a degree must have at least 3 years of relevant experience. 2+ years of experience in editorial research or fact-checking. Strong language skills with an appreciation for grammar, word usage, and writing style. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to concisely explain issues and articulate solutions. Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse teams. Superior organizational abilities and capability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe InCopy. Comfort using MAC operating systems. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with InCopy K4 platform is a plus. Foreign language proficiency is a plus. Curiosity and ability to quickly grasp new subject matter. Work Environment & Additional Information: Casual dress code (jeans permitted). Work setting consists of cubicles. Interview process includes two rounds: first via Zoom, second in person.
