In August of 2003, the company inaugurated its new state-of-the-art home, Marion Oliver McCaw Hall, located on the Seattle Center campus, in the heart of the arts and cultural district of the city. At the end of 2018, the company moved its education, artistic, and administrative programs to a new civic home next to McCaw Hall. The new building is an accessible community resource and will allow the company to expand its education programs. The company's fifth General & Artistic Director, James Robinson, began his tenure October 1, 2025.  

ARTIST LIAISON

Position Status: Regular, Full Time
Position Location: 20% Remote / 80% Onsite
Salary Range: $62,000 - $66,000
Reports to: Associate Director of Artistic Administration & Planning
START DATE: APRIL/MAY 2025
POSITION SUMMARY
The ARTIST LIAISON is a member of the Artistic Department who is responsible for all administrative and logistical matters involving guest artists and volunteers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:
PLANNING
  • Arrange or assist with all hospitality needs for guest artists including housing resources and arrangements and travel.
  • Manage all required steps for International Artist visas, from application through approval. Stay current  on relevant work visa laws.
  • Coordinate recruitment and audition process for dancers, supernumerary volunteers, actors, youth chorus and child principals.
  • Recruit and supervise volunteers who support the Artistic Department. Hire and manage the child supervisors for rehearsals and performances including minor-aged performers.
  • Update Seattle Opera’s webpage for housing and lodging resources.  Establish strong network with local hotels and lodging owners and negotiate accommodation discounts.
  • Provides budget information as requested.
ARTIST SUPPORT DURING PRODUCTION PERIODS
  • Provide artists resources for any special needs such as doctors, medical offices, gyms, massage, etc.
  • Serve as main point of contact for dancers, supernumerary volunteers, actors, youth chorus and child principals,
  • Coordinate ticketing requests and dress rehearsal passes for guest artists and industry colleagues.
  • Create and update backstage security lists.
  • Coordinate dressing room assignments with Production Departments.
  • Attend tech week and dress rehearsals as assigned.  Participates in “Artistic Manager on duty” rotation for performances.

Examples of Additional Responsibilities include the following:
  • Provide secondary assistance with parking passes as needed.
  • May be assigned other duties to help support the Artistic Department.
Position requirements

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree, music preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
Related experience:
  • At least 3 years of experience in artist hospitality preferred.  Experience with O-visa application process in a similar industry highly desired, however training will be made available as needed.
Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:
  • A WA State Driver’s license and personal vehicle are strongly recommended. At a minimum the employee must have reliable and readily available transportation to complete urgent and/or unforeseen errands.

  • Musical/vocal knowledge is desirable.
 
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of:
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Competency with databases and accounting software (ActivityHD and SAP Concur) is preferred
  • Tessitura familiarity is a bonus

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to indoor work conditions and will work with a variety of guests, community partners, staff, union employees, students, and artists. The noise level in the work environment varies depending on the activity in the building—it can range from very quiet to somewhat loud with large numbers of participants in a program and/or music and singing.
 
typical work schedule and required attendance:
  • This position typically works Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.
  • During production periods, the typical schedule can be flexed to accommodate nights and weekends during rehearsal and performance periods, as required.
  • Must be accessible and able to respond to emergencies that may arise.
