As a member of the Marketing and Communications department, the Content Manager plays a critical role in stewarding the SLSO’s brand and voice across a variety of external communications. Under the supervision of the Content Director, the Content Manager writes, edits, and ensures the efficient development of these communications, supporting high-quality content that resonates with audiences and donors and aligns with the SLSO’s institutional goals.
The successful candidate is an exceptional writer with a strong interest in music, demonstrating impeccable attention to detail and organizational skills as well as the ability to strategically and creatively adapt communications for target audiences and platforms. RESPONSIBILITES:
• Through copywriting, editing, and proofreading, deliver high-quality, compelling, and accurate content that embodies the SLSO’s brand, voice, and institutional objectives across multiple formats, including feature articles, institutional letters and reports, fundraising appeals, promotional copy, and concert descriptions.
• Work with the Content Director, Public Relations Director, and other SLSO team members to generate seasonal storytelling plans and editorial calendars. Collaborate with all departments to develop story ideas and ensure accurate content.
• Oversee content creation, production, and design of printed concert programs, program notes, and special inserts, ensuring on-time delivery for all concerts. Compile copy, biographies, and other materials to be included in printed programs and maintain program archives.
• Collaborate with external partners, such as writers, editors, and printers, to develop and produce publications, handling invoices and negotiating fees.
• Produce regular institutional communications throughout season, including pre-concert slides and the monthly SLSO e-newsletter. Contribute to social media efforts and manage special publications and projects.
• Serve in department rotation as representative at concerts and events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Two+ years’ professional experience in communications preferred, especially with a non-profit arts organization.
• Bachelor’s degree in music, musicology, English, communications/journalism with classical music experience strongly preferred.
• Exceptional copywriting and editing skills, with the ability to adapt writing style for different audiences and platform. Experience using Chicago or AP style is preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to maintain brand consistency across all content initiatives.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
• Strong organizational and administrative skills and the ability to prioritize tasks, meet multiple deadlines, and work independently.
• Cultural competency with a diverse group of artists, staff, and community stakeholders.
• Passionate about the mission of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and the arts more broadly.
• Competency with software platforms such as Microsoft Office, email management systems, and project management systems.
• Ability to work some evenings/weekends at events.
