Job Description
Chaminade Middle School seeks an innovative and dynamic Innovation & Media Specialist to manage our Joe Rauser Library Commons. The Joe Rauser Library Commons is our school's information and learning hub that houses a large collection of print and digital books, a makerspace, and robotics field. This full-time role requires a forward-thinking educator who fosters a love of reading, research, and digital literacy while also overseeing hands-on, project-based learning in our developing makerspace. The ideal candidate will collaborate with faculty to support literacy-rich unit and lesson design, promote strong and ethical literacy practices with our students, and foster a sense of play and curiosity by integrating emerging technologies that enhance student experiences in literacy, art, and STEAM. This position reports to the Vice Principal of Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology and Vice Principal of Academics; is a member of the Academic Council; sand works closely with department chairs, art and broadcast media instructors, and the Instructional Technology Specialist.
Key Responsibilities: Library & Media Services, Technology & Digital Learning Integration, and Makerspace & Robotics Program Management.
Qualifications & Skills
- Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science, Education Technology, English, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of research skills, media literacy, and digital citizenship.
- Familiarity with children's literature, particularly middle level to Young Adult
- Familiarity with makerspace technologies (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters, microcontrollers, coding platforms, robotics kits).
- Excellent organizational, collaboration, and communication skills.
- Preferred
- Master's Degree in Library Science (MLS) or Library and Information Science (MLIS), Education Technology, English, or a related field.
- Teaching credential and/or experience working with middle school students.
- Experience managing a school library or instructional technology program.
- Knowledge of/experience teaching robotics platforms (e.g., LEGO Mindstorms, VEX Robotics, Arduino).
- Experience in lesson design and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Salary and Benefits
This is a salaried/exempt from overtime position. Chaminade faculty are paid on a salary schedule based on degrees and years of prior teaching experience.
