LOCATION: Seattle, WA
Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park - Seattle (KLSE), part of the greater Seattle Area National Park Sites, is dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging between communities and public lands. The intern will support the park’s youth programming by creating inclusive activities and conversations with unacknowledged communities in the National Park Service (NPS). With an asset-based framework, the intern will collaborate with youth to elevate their strengths, resources, and capabilities to grow as individuals and improve the NPS. KLSE is ready to support the intern’s personal and professional growth goals with flexibility within youth programming projects.
The intern will support KLSE’s youth leadership academy, In My Backyard (IMBY), which builds relationships between high school-aged students and the NPS. The goal of IMBY is to help foster the next generation of stewards and create opportunities for unacknowledged communities in the NPS. IMBY was created by youth, for youth, to address barriers and actively invite voices to share ideas and stories that can create a sense of belonging for all in our public lands. Responsibilities of the intern include facilitating conversations and activities for youth, developing content to engage high school students that aligns with their interests in relation to conservation, relationship building, and introducing youth to community programs/partners/individuals.
The intern will also support KLSE’s Visitor Center alongside park staff, volunteers, and fellow youth interns. Duties include greeting park visitors, representing the National Park Service, and creating content to showcase youth voices.
