Role Summary: Practical Law is looking for a Senior Associate Editor, Litigation to work in conjunction with more experienced colleagues to interpret and explain legal, practice, and market developments to our customers through online content. Practical Law is a leading online know-how service providing rigorous, peer-reviewed resources, such as practice notes, current awareness and standard documents to help legal professionals work smarter and advise with confidence. Practical Law is part of Thomson Reuters, one of the world's most trusted providers of answers across law, tax, compliance, government and media.
About the Role: As a Senior Associate Editor, you will report into a Litigation Managing Editor and will be responsible for supporting the Litigation Practice Area by:
- Monitoring and identifying relevant legal developments to cover in the Practical Law product offering.
- Maintaining content to ensure that it is up-to-date and reflects current legal and market practice, and is of the quality and scope that meets business objectives and customer needs.
- Working with Senior Specialist Legal Editors to research, draft and edit new litigation content for online publication.
- Writing, editing, and publishing legal updates on litigation topics.
- Liaising with external law firm contributors.
- Training AI for use in products and validating model performance to identify necessary steps to improve performance, as needed.
- Providing additional support, as needed.
About You: You're a fit for the role of Senior Associate Editor if your background includes:
- A J.D. and current license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction.
- At least three (3) years' experience working as a litigation attorney in a law firm or as in-house counsel.
- General expertise in litigation procedure and a good understanding of the needs and priorities of law firm attorneys, in-house counsel, and the legal market in general.
- Enthusiasm and ambition, with a desire to learn and to improve the efficiency of legal services.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and editing skills, including the ability to improve clarity, structure, and readability of complex content.
- Skill and passion for writing, including close attention to detail; impressive command of grammar, punctuation, and plain English; strong technical drafting skills; and the ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
- Comfort with technology, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, and able to adapt to new technology quickly.
- Ability to organize and present information in a clear and structured manner.
- Ability to work efficiently and within deadlines and communicate effectively across teams.
- Ability to work flexibly in an agile work environment.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse teams of people who bring different perspectives and lived experiences to the business.
- Ability to continuously collaborate with and support team members in a hybrid and/or remote environment and operate efficiently in a remote environment without on-site technical support.
Candidates selected for a second interview will be required to undertake a writing and editing sample.
