Job Description
NBC News is looking for a dynamic communications professional to join its world-class bureau in Washington, DC. This role will help execute press strategies for the network’s political coverage, as well its acclaimed brands such as “Meet the Press with Kristen Welker” and DC-based editorial teams.
The Publicist will support day-to-day media relations for NBC News across the network’s TV, digital & streaming platforms, as well as assist in the promotion of election coverage and events, special reports and breaking news.
The role requires extensive organizational skills, creative and innovative thinking, proven written skills and a strong interest in news (especially politics), media and public relations.
Responsibilities of the Publicist include, but are not limited to:
- Provide strategic and proactive media relations for DC-based NBC News correspondents, anchors, programs and executives.
- Execute press strategies for the “Meet the Press” brand and help promote news made on the program.
- Support day-to-day media relations for NBC News across the network’s TV, digital & streaming platforms.
- Publicize news-making interviews, exclusives stories and scoops, political and investigative reporting, special breaking news coverage and enterprise reporting.
- Assist in the promotion of special reports, breaking news, as well as election coverage and events.
- Foster strong contacts with all types of media outlets and platforms.
- Coordinate media interviews, speaking events, photo shoots and publicity opportunities.
- Collaborate closely with the New York-based NBC News PR team on a variety of projects.
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years relevant media relations and communications experience, political or media experience strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience.
- Excellent news judgement and strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Willingness to travel and work on weekends.
- Exemplary organization and time management skills.
- A team player and ability to work across and balance multiple deadlines and projects.
- Must have strong interest in news, politics and media.
- Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
- Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news.
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience with talent/executive relations.
- Should be able to work in fast-paced environment and meet crucial deadlines.
- Robust understanding of and enthusiasm for the television news and media industry.
- Willingness to work beyond regular hours.
- Ability to exercise a high level of discretion in handling talent, confidential and sensitive information.
Additional Job Requirements:
- Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Salary range: $65,000 - $75,000.
