Alutiiq Integration & Repair, LLC, a subsidiary of Alutiiq, LLC, has an opportunity for a Technical Writer I (NASA Technical Editor). The ARC and AFRC Technical Publications Office’s (TPO) function is to provide editing and publishing services in support of ARC and AFRC and the NASA Scientific Technical Information (STI) Program. The primary functions include accurate technical editing and related assistance, such as formatting, to pertinent applicable specifications. The contractor shall perform all related functions, such as work control and scheduling; administrative support; customer support; development, documentation, and maintenance of internal operating procedures and systems; data gathering; records maintenance; productivity and project status report preparation; and problem follow-up and resolution.

Responsibilities:

  • Tracking formal and informal editorial production.
  • Communicating and interfacing with authors.
  • Communicating and interfacing with the Armstrong STI Manager, the staff of the Graphics, Photo (Imaging), and Reproduction departments, and other parties pertinent to completing a successful edit of the document.
  • Creating and maintaining office and historical files to comply with NASA Records Management Program Requirements, under the guidance of the Armstrong Records Liaison Officer (RLO).
  • Communicating and interfacing with the Task Monitor, the Research Reports Facilitator, and other Armstrong or NASA personnel in anticipating workflow and ensuring that NASA STI Series report or conference (meeting) paper requirements are met.
  • Prioritizing all editorial production, preserving a balanced and reasonable production schedule.
  • Training new editors and providing guidance to experienced editors.
  • Coordinating procedures with the Armstrong STI Manager and STIPO (including attending certain STI related meetings).
  • Maintaining an up-to-date understanding of NASA STI practices and plans.
  • Compiling metrics that are used to report statistics that NASA personnel may request in weekly, monthly, quarterly, biannual, or annual summaries.
  • Providing updates to the NASA Task Monitor and the Research Reports Facilitator regarding formal editorial production and other related items of interest.
  • Generally overseeing the function of the TPO and guiding TPO staff members.

Payrate: $29.04 Hourly

Minimum Requirements:

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in English or related subject area, 4 years’ experience in performing similar responsibilities as a Lead Technical Editor.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, pursuing the degree in English or Language Arts subject area, 4 years recent service may be substituted for education, with one year experience in performing as a technical editor.
  • Must have Active Secret Security Clearance.
  • Pursuant to the Government Contract, you must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Must possess excellent command of the English language.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interface with personnel at all levels.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • This experience must demonstrate the ability to acquire and present technical information through independent reading, interviews with subject-matter specialists, observation of tests and experiments, interpretation of blueprints or diagrams, or other appropriate methods.
