POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Creative Services Director, this position will be responsible for taking on designs that maintain consistent brand standards for Wisconsin State Fair Park. With a keen eye for detail, the ideal candidate will leverage strong creative and technical skills to design layouts and edit images, illustrations, and videos, ensuring they are polished and publication-ready for both print and digital platforms. The candidate should be able to work independently and be able to collaborate with internal and external teams. Finally, the candidate will be able to mentor and provide leadership and guidance to junior graphic designers, ensuring timely project completion while maintaining high quality design.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE
This position is an unclassified, Dual-Limited Term Employment (LTE) position within the State of Wisconsin employment system, working an average of 40 hours per week throughout the calendar year. Annual hours worked will not exceed 2,078.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The starting wage for this role will be based on qualifications. A comprehensive fringe benefits package, including health and dental insurance, life insurance, and disability insurance is available after a minimum employment period is met. Paid time off for vacation, holidays, etc. is not included as part of the benefits package per State of Wisconsin Legislature, s. 230.26(4), Wis. Stats.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Design Leadership & Execution

  • Collaborate with the Creative Services Director to extend campaign elements across various internal projects and departments
  • Maintain consistent brand standards across campaigns for the Wisconsin State Fair, Harvest Fair, and Wisconsin State Fair Park
  • Ensure all design decisions align with the director’s final approval
  • Work with internal teams and external agencies to create graphic assets for websites, email marketing, social media, advertising, external clients, and promotional events

Video Editing & Production
  • Manage and execute video editing and production for promotional and event content, ensuring high-quality results
  • Utilize video editing skills to produce content that aligns with brand guidelines and campaign objectives

Team Leadership & Mentorship
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior graphic designers, ensuring their growth and development
  • Manage the workflow of junior designers, ensuring timely project delivery while maintaining design quality
  • Follow the established protocol for design approvals, ensuring that all work receives final sign-off from the Creative Services Director

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional experience in graphic design or related creative field
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Proficiency in photo editing software, such as Photoshop or Lightroom
  • Strong understanding of typography, layout, color theory, and branding
  • Ability to prepare press-ready files for production
  • Experience mentoring junior designers or collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining consistent, high-quality design work
  • Receptive to feedback and able to adapt designs based on creative direction

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual arts, or related field
  • Experience with CSS and HTML
  • Familiarity with WordPress or other Content Management Systems (CMS)
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics and other tools for measuring design impact
  • Understanding of UX/UI principles and the ability to align design work with business objectives
  • Ability to edit videos using Premiere Pro, After Effects, or similar editing software

SPECIAL NOTES
The candidate must be able to work all 11 days of the annual Wisconsin State Fair. Prior to appointment to this position, the candidate will be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check.

Contingent on business needs and the seasonality of WSFP, up to 2 days of remote work per week is available after an initial training period. Remote work will be discussed during the interview stage. High speed internet access is needed to meet the requirements of remote work.
