We are looking for an innovative, enthusiastic, self-motivated qualified librarian to join our friendly team at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, North Wales.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to provide professional support to the Library Services Manager, assist with the planning/delivery of information retrieval, critical appraisal skills and training sessions to groups and individuals, provide an extensive outreach/student service and assist with all aspects of the Library Management System. Proven literature searching skills and a sound knowledge of electronic systems, databases and online resources is therefore essential, as is a thorough working knowledge of current library practices and procedures.

You will have excellent communication and customer care skills, and the ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision. A team player, you will be contributing to cross-site project work. An aptitude for marketing & promotion, excellent IT skills and enthusiasm for developing the service are also key to this role.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • A degree in library or information related studies or able to demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge, skills and experience
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Applications
  • Awareness of healthcare information resources
  • Knowledge of library management systems
  • Knowledge of Copyright, Data Protection, GDPR, Health and Safety and Freedom of Information legislation
  • MCLIP (Membership of the Chartered Institute of Library & Information Professionals)
  • Advanced ECDL

Experience

  • Experience of working in a library environment
  • Experience of searching databases and the internet for high quality information sources
  • Experience of working in a health library
