We are accepting applications for Library Media Technician II. At this time, we have 1 opening for an 8-hour, 11-month employee at Diamond Bar High School. The work hours for this position are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

BASIC FUNCTION
Under direction, to operate a library media center at a school site; to perform a variety of responsible and highly technical functions pertaining to the operation of a comprehensive library media center, the acquisition, processing, distribution, and storage of books, computers and related software, audio-video equipment, instructional materials and other media; to perform a variety of library media audit and monitoring functions; and to do other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Plans and schedules the utilization of the library media center, computer laboratories and media center equipment and materials.
  2. Assists instructional personnel and students in locating library reference material.
  3. Assists instructional staff and students in the understanding and use of equipment and software applications, including computer assisted instruction and library research.
  4. Performs a variety of technical clerical functions related to the media center, including the processing of instructional materials and media, the development of catalog and card files, bibliographies, materials and records concerning obsolete instructional material and media, the typing and filing of book cards and other similar functions.
  5. Coordinates, organizes and actively participates in the selection and preparation of library collection, instructional material and media requisitions and orders, which may include site textbook orders.
  6. Monitors, counsels and controls student behavior.
  7. Reviews library collection informational materials, computer instructional software sources, computerized library use equipment and materials and provides technical support to site personnel pertaining to the acquisition of instructional media and material.
  8. Coordinates the activities related to purchase and receipt of library and media collections and prepares and forwards routine correspondence concerning matters not requiring the personal response of supervisory personnel.
  9. Participates in the evaluation of the library collection and the disposal of obsolete materials.
  10. Assists with the display and evaluation of new textbook adoptions and instructional materials and media forwarded for review by book publishers and instructional material and media vendors.
  11. Maintains an attractive and motivational environment.
  12. Performs minor computer and audiovisual equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  13. Actively participates with library and instructional staff in curriculum design and development projects.
  14. Maintains a variety of automated inventory control records and participates in inventory review.
  15. Performs orientation and in-service training of library media personnel, volunteers and student aide.
  16. May maintain several related budgets and related records.
  17. Coordinates and leads library media personnel in the performance of a variety of library media functions.
  18. Provides technical input into the performance appraisal of library media personnel.
  19. May coordinate the distribution of textbooks and other materials in accordance with student enrollment figures and library operational procedures.
  20. Coordinates the receipt and processing of damaged and obsolete textbooks, library books and media.
  21. Prepares and coordinates the billing and repayment for lost or damaged items.
  22. Plans, organizes and conducts book fairs and reading incentive programs.
  23. Works closely with site administrators, library and instructional personnel in the development of the library resource programs and activities.
  24. Perform book talks, storytelling and literary reviews.
JOB REQUIREMENTS – QUALIFICATIONS
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skill to:
  1. Effectively perform responsible and technical library media functions in a comprehensive library setting.
  2. Prepare and maintain a variety of automated records and files and be able to present clear and comprehensive management related reports.
  3. Keyboard at a net corrected speed of 30 words per minute.
Knowledge of:
  1. Modern office practices and procedures including record keeping.
  2. Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and arithmetical concepts.
  3. Policies, rules, regulations and processes pertaining to the acquisition, processing, circulation, and distribution of instructional and library materials, media and textbooks.
  4. Library terminology and standard library practices, including a working knowledge of library classification and research systems and procedures.
  5. Organizational methods and procedures.
  6. Basic principles of employee and volunteer motivation and supervision.
  7. Operation and use of audiovisual equipment and microcomputers.
Ability to:
  1. Effectively organize, lead and coordinate the work of others, and provide technical detail pertaining to the performance of library media personnel.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills would be:
Experience:
Four years clerical experience which includes three years increasingly responsible library or library media related experience.
Education:
Completion of an A.A. Degree or its equivalent.
LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT
Possession of a First Aid Certificate issued by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.

Persons performing service in this position classification will be expected to perform light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time. (Per the Code of Federal Regulations - Section 404.1567 “Physical Exertion Requirements”)

This type of work involves sitting or standing most of the time, but may involve walking, stooping, bending, reaching or stretching for brief periods.

Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.

The top three ranks of candidates on the Eligibility List, who are ready, willing and able to accept the position, will be invited to the Final Selection Interview with the hiring authority.

BENEFITS:Permanent employees will receive paid holidays, sick leave, vacation and longevity benefits per contract or Commission Rules. The District offers a comprehensive package of insurance benefits. Employees working less than full-time, but a minimum of four hours will contribute an amount proportionate to the number of assigned work hours for major medical insurance benefits. The District does not offer a package of insurance benefits to employees working less than four hours per day. The District provides life insurance for employees who work a minimum of 3.5 hours. In addition, the District offers a retirement plan which uses joint employee and employer contributions.

Fingerprinting:Employees will be charged for processing their fingerprints at the time they are hired. The fingerprints are used to complete a confidential background investigation. All candidates with a record of convictions must indicate such on the confidential data form, which is attached to the job application. A record of conviction will not automatically disqualify an applicant from employment, but failure to list all convictions may result in disqualification or dismissal.
Physical Examination:Newly hired employees must pass a qualifying Medical examination given by a District-appointed physician, which includes testing for illegal controlled substances.
Tuberculosis Exam:Newly hired employees must submit a Mantoux Skin screening and certificate of completion within the past 60 days that indicates freedom from active tuberculosis.
Immigration Reform and Control Act Of 1986:An Eligibility Verification Form (I-9) will be required along with the supporting documents listed on the I-9 form.
