Job Summary:
The Music Prep Instructor is responsible for supporting the music program by providing instruction in the Music Preparatory Division, which is a part of the TCU School of Music. The instructor will teach non-credit private piano lessons for students of all ages and levels. Lessons feature traditional instruction, and at times Suzuki experience may be required. Lessons will take place approximately three days weekly, normally during after-school hours. The job requires availability for fall, spring and summer sessions.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
- Provides instructional support to Music Preparatory by teaching private piano lessons.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
- Minimum of Master’s degree in Piano Performance or Piano Pedagogy.
- Prior experience teaching piano in private lessons.
- Prior experience teaching students of all ages and levels.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
None
Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:
Suzuki Book 1 certification
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of customer service techniques.
- Knowledge of interpersonal communication techniques to interact with students and/or caregivers.
- Knowledge of instruction, facilitation, and training techniques as applied to music.
- Knowledge of technological applications appropriate to teaching music.
- Knowledge to apply student development theory.
- Skill in some or all components of Microsoft Office.
Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
- Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
- Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
- Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
- Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
- Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.
Work Environment:
Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours. This role is an on campus, in-person position. There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job. The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
