Summary/Objective:


The Website Designer will collaborate with a team to design inspiring, user-friendly web and digital content. Reporting to the Communications Director, this role will plan and execute highly effective website and digital platform designs. The Website Designer will develop professional marketing materials, social media graphics, videos, edited photographs, mobile assets, and other digital content. Additionally, the candidate should be capable of developing and designing mobile apps and must be comfortable working with both iOS and Android platforms. This role also ensures compliance with Section 508 and accessibility standards, staying informed about advancements in accessibility and assistive technologies. The ideal candidate is passionate about technology, design trends, and enhancing user experience.


Primary Duties:

  • Design and update company websites, focusing on clear, effective user experiences optimized across devices while adhering to web development and accessibility standards.
  • Conduct product reviews and provide design solutions.
  • Serve as an accessibility subject matter expert, ensuring deliverables and outbound materials meet accessibility standards.
  • Participate in operational and technical planning, configuring text and graphic content.
  • Perform accessibility testing for websites and digital content using assistive technologies, ensuring compliance with Section 508 standards and W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards and best practices.
  • Remediate accessibility errors and update Accessibility Conformance Reports.
  • Design and enhance layouts with a systems approach for reuse and optimization across different screen sizes and devices.
  • Provide guidance and solutions to complex problems on a range of products.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology (IT) and the Communications Department to troubleshoot and resolve graphical or layout issues in publications, websites, and other platforms or materials.
  • Coordinate accessibility workflows, including testing and remediation of ICT.
  • Research emerging tools, technologies, and trends, providing internal training as needed.
  • Create graphic assets, including digital and print materials, interactive online content, forms, flyers, slides, brochures, and posters.
  • Deliver projects to customers on time.
  • Manage and update content using a web content management system.
  • Protect the confidentiality of patient information through compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH).
  • Assist in preparation for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) audits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Essential Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript (including jQuery), and assistive technologies.
  • Experience with Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.
  • Extensive knowledge of design principles, wireframe creation, and front-end development best practices.
  • Familiarity with ticket management and collaboration tools, including Jira and Confluence.
  • Knowledge of best practices in design and front-end development. Experience in interaction design, usability, and information architecture, including mobile development.
  • Broad understanding of user experience and user-centered design.

Essential Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in design, communications, computer science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of web development and accessibility experience, minimum of one year of experience in graphic design.
  • Accessibility certification preferred.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, Figma, and Adobe Creative Cloud applications (Illustrator, Photoshop, XD, InDesign). Skills in After Effects or digital video are a plus.
  • Experience implementing complex websites, responsive web design, front-end build processes, and HTML5/CSS3/SASS and JavaScript.
  • Solid grasp of best practices and standards for web development, performance, security, WCAG 2.1, requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 508 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, and organic search engine optimization (SEO).

· Experience using testing tools, including WAVE®, Color Contrast Analyzer, and assistive technology such as screen readers (e.g., JAWS, NVDA). Experience remediating electronic documents and digital media for compliance with accessibility standards.

· Technical and Creative: Excellence: Must possess a mastery of all visual design elements, including composition, imagery, iconography, typography, color, and other design details. Must have strong conceptual and problem-solving skills.


· Collaborative: Effective oral, written, and visual communication skills and understanding of cultural competence to communicate with diverse audiences. Must work effectively within a team environment.

Must be flexible and proactive in recognizing and responding to the organization's needs. This may require extended work hours during the week, on weekends, on holidays, and on demand to prevent or mitigate adverse situations or respond to opportunities. Available to travel as necessary.
