Job Description
We are looking for a Chief Photographer to lead the photojournalist team at Telemundo 60 San Antonio, supporting our local news operations. As Chief Photographer, you will be responsible for setting the visual storytelling standard, managing, executing, and covering daily assignments and special projects. This role requires both strong leadership skills and hands-on execution as a photojournalist. You’ll be responsible for mentoring and developing your team while also capturing compelling visuals that bring stories to life. Job Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of photojournalists and multimedia journalists, ensuring high-quality visual storytelling.
- Set and maintain high standards for video composition, lighting, and audio quality.
- Execute daily assignments and special projects, collaborating with producers, reporters, and news leadership to develop compelling content.
- Oversee the maintenance and operation of all photography equipment, including cameras, drones, live transmission units, and editing systems.
- Work closely with news management to coordinate coverage of breaking news, features, and investigative projects.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and best practices in newsgathering.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and provide guidance on newsroom technology and workflow solutions.
- Stay up to date with emerging trends and innovations in video journalism.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a news photographer, with at least 1 year in a leadership or senior role.
- Strong understanding of video production techniques, lighting, and composition.
- Experience operating and maintaining professional cameras, drones, and live shot technology (LiveU, Dejero, etc.).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and in high-pressure situations.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English is highly preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as news coverage demands.
Skills & Experience We Are Looking For:
- Expertise in field production, video editing, and newsgathering technologies.
- Strong storytelling abilities, with a keen eye for compelling visuals.
- Knowledge of newsroom systems, including NRCS, NLE, and digital asset management.
- Experience leading a high-performing team in a news production environment.
- Ability to adapt to new technology and work in a fast-paced, evolving industry.
