Visual Arts Coordinator (Gallery Coordinator)
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Visual Arts Coordinator (Gallery Coordinator) for Mason Gross School of the Arts (MGSA). This position will report directly to the Department Chair of the Art & Design Department.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Manages the daily organization, facilitation, implementation of all exhibition activity throughout the department.
- Works closely with the technical staff, office staff, and faculty to achieve these manifestations that make art and design accessible to audiences.
- Maintains gallery budget and prepares purchasing requisitions and invoice expenses.
- Manages hourly wage employees and student workers.
- Manages development, design and administration of the gallery website.
- Coordinates effective and efficient seamless operation and interactions between the faculty, other technicians, administrators and/or students.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in visual arts, design, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education.
- Two (2) years of relevant experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Expertise in the installation and handling of paintings, works on paper, sculpture, and media works.
- Experience working with power tools and wood shop equipment, carpentry skills.
- Experience with lighting art gallery spaces.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to maintain professional demeanor and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Fast-paced, customer service focused environment.
- May require evening and weekend hours as needed.
- Must be able to lift approximately 50 pounds to transport artwork and installations/de-installations.
