Job Description

Montgomery College, Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, has an immediate need for a full-time Access Services Library Associate Director. The Access Services department is one of three service areas of the College Library unit. This role provides leadership and direction for the daily operations at three campus libraries and one shared center facility. The work schedule is Monday to Friday; 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with expected schedule flexibility to provide coverage based on department needs. This is a Non-Bargaining, Exempt, Grade 33 position. This position is currently eligible for telework one day a week. This eligibility is subject to change based on the needs of the unit.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Leads and provides direction of the collegewide library services and operations of the Access Services department.
  • Supports all aspects of the area’s engagement with campus activities for the multi-location library system.
  • Develops, enhances, and standardizes library policies and procedures.
  • Works with contractors, consultants, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Recruits, leads, supervises, mentors, and coaches the Access Services staff.
  • Holds regular team meetings, retreats, and relevant workshops.
  • Assesses and improves current library programs and services; identifies and implements new library programs and services to optimize resource stewardship, enhanced user experience, and student success.
  • Develops innovative technology solutions for the library in support of student success.
  • Responsible for oversight of course reserves, inter-library loan, and resource sharing operations and leads planning for keeping the services current.
  • Collaborates with the Research and Teaching Associate Director on collegewide service expectations and participation in remote services.
  • Manages and oversees the functions of the library information systems employed by Access Services to deliver user services, and collaboratively plans and implements new technologies to the public in partnership with the Resources and Collections department and Office of Information Technology and other areas of the library.
  • Works in collaboration with the Library Director to coordinate collegewide planning for library aesthetics, space planning, and furnishings for each facility.
  • Acts as library point person on safety and security matters, and in consultation for resolutions on larger issues.
  • Works in concert with the Library Director as first line reporting and tracking of maintenance needs in each library.
  • Effectively manages the physical collections, stacks, and public spaces to optimize the user experience across the library.
  • Collects service area metrics, and contributes metrics to all library related reports and presentations.
  • Ensures ongoing division engagement in general library events, participation in collegewide non-academic programming, and maintenance of displays in all libraries.
  • Contributes to budget development, and manage budget spending in Access Services.
  • Oversees student employee and supplies budgets.
  • Actively participates in college and professional service, including taking on leadership roles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science (M.L.S., M.S.L.S., M.L.I.S.) from an American Library Association-accredited institution.
  • Five years of professional level experience in Access Services and/or library services in similar library functional areas.
  • Two years of supervisory experience, preferably in an academic library.
  • Thorough knowledge of current trends, principles, policies, procedures, and practices related to Access Services such as library user service technology, user experience, and access services.
  • Working knowledge of cross-functional aspects of public services and technical services.
  • Managing employees, budget, and other resources related to Access Services.
  • Excellent communication, highly developed interpersonal skills, and proven track record of strong collaboration with employees and colleagues.
  • Working with and supervising a diverse employee team, and working with a diverse broader community.
  • Identifying, developing, and implementing short and/or long-term strategic goals and objectives.
  • Planning and organizing work initiatives to successfully accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and developing innovative concepts and approaches.
  • Strong decision-making abilities that align with the College and library’s mission, vision, and values, and operational and fiscal needs of the library.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with systems and software related to Access Services, including but not limited to Ex Libris Alma, ILLiad, Ares, Pharos, Springshare services, and ADA technologies.

Hiring Range: $83,374 - $114,639 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $145,904 annually.
