Preferred Qualifications Position SummaryThe College of Environment + Design (CED) Marketing and Communications Specialist is a full-time position that will support our Communications Director in creating, editing, and publishing written content for digital and print media. We are seeking someone who is self-motivated with strong writing and interpersonal skills, a proven record of task management, and an interest in spatial design and how it impacts our world. The ideal candidate will have a passion for storytelling with a journalistic approach, energized by research and following leads to create work that meets deadlines and exceeds expectations. CED is a multi-disciplinary college with a wide range of research and public service projects happening at the undergraduate, graduate, professional, and doctoral level. We have many stories to tell, and this position will play a crucial role in helping us share our work with the world!
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies- Required:
* Highly skilled in researching and reporting in order to develop engaging and impactful story content
* Strong writing, copy editing, and proofreading skills
* Ability to self-motivate and take initiative to set and reach communication goals
* Excellent verbal communication skills with a variety of audiences
* Ability to prioritize and communicate on multiple projects while still adhering to deadlines
* Proficient in typical office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
- Preferred:
* Competent with digital platforms such as social media and websites
* Experience with social media content management, scheduling, and analytics
* Familiar with Adobe suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) or other creative platforms
- Typical demands of a standard office environment.
- Work at a computer workstation for extended periods of time

Content Creation:
- Manage multiple writing projects simultaneously, coordinating with various members of the CED community to ensure clear communication on progress, priorities, and deadlines.
- Participate in brainstorming interesting and original ideas for new written content
- Write engaging captions for social media posts
- Research, write, and publish stories to the CED website newsfeed
- Collect and prioritize story suggestions from CED community and seek out additional stories related to CED communication goals
- Conceptualize compelling stories that will enhance the recruitment efforts of CED
- Schedule and conduct interviews with faculty, students, or visiting lecturers when appropriate
- Provide informative, well-written copy for various marketing materials, newsletters, and reports
Online Content Maintenance:
- Complete general content updates to CED website pages as needed
- Assist in maintaining our social media accounts
- Assist in scheduling posts when necessary
- Write captions that engage not only CED students but other viewers as well
- Review and proof the written content of student-led communications
Other:
- Attend and participate in PR Committee meetings, as well as monthly faculty and staff meetings
- Represent CED at campus events and Strategic Communicators Meetings
- Maintain a consistent messaging strategy that adheres to CED and UGA's messaging standards
- Collaborate on marketing efforts for events, alumni engagement, donor campaigns, and community outreach.
