Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Vice President and Executive Producer, the Director of Audience Development and Sales leads our audience expansion initiatives and plays a pivotal role in bringing diverse voices and fresh perspectives to our programming while building meaningful relationships across communities.
This role combines strategic thinking, community outreach, and hands-on execution to connect our organization with new audiences, artists, and promoters. It particularly targets strategic growth markets for the Center, including young adults, African Americans, Latinos, and South Asian communities. This position will work at the intersection of programming, marketing, and community outreach to shape our future audience landscape.
This position requires a detail-oriented, highly organized team player with excellent interpersonal skills who works seamlessly and efficiently with Center staff and external stakeholders. Essential skills include thriving in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment while maintaining high professionalism. Must be a self-starter and work autonomously using independent judgment. Extensive interdepartmental collaboration is expected. Duties may be assigned or modified by the VP and EP. A positive attitude towards the position and the Center’s Core Values is imperative.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Support programming in identifying, connecting to, and building relationships with artists, promoters, and partners that will appeal to targeted expansion markets for ticketed commercial presentations, rentals, and/or free community events. Initial targeted markets will include young adults, African Americans, Latinos, and South Asians, among others
- Support marketing in identifying partners whose expertise and relationships will drive sales in target expansion markets with a key goal to increase earned revenue through ticket sales and new rental clients, including identifying promoters, specialized media, influencers, and street team partners
- Support marketing by influencing marketing plans for performances where audience acquisition is essential, including identifying trusted media, supporting social media targets, reviewing messaging, identifying list share opportunities, and providing guidance on the use of partners
- Create and manage a community advisory council program that will gather leaders and influencers in target communities to gain feedback on programming, barriers to participation, marketing, and partners. The groups should meet regularly in the community and provide authentic interactions that build trust and partnership, but also ultimately result in stronger sales to target communities
- Manage shared group sales function
- Manage and execute street teams, “ground game,” and other non-traditional channels
- Develop and execute a robust strategy around new audience acquisition and retention.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities at this time.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Music Business, a closely related discipline, or at least five years of experience working in a related field. Experience in the arts preferred
- Experience in sales and marketing in at least one of the target markets is strongly preferred
- Track record and experience in audience/patron building and retention
- Experience building and executing successful marketing plans with clear deliverables of earned revenue
- Understanding of current marketing trends and tactics for reaching new markets
- Ability to cultivate a positive work environment through respectful and collaborative means
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required
- Knowledge of and deep appreciation for the performing arts is preferred
