ZDNET is seeking a full-time Managing Editor on the News & Features team. This editor will work with a team of writers, editors, and freelancers to create news stories, feature articles, tips, how-tos, explainers, and commentary. The role requires a person with attention to detail, proven ability to manage multiple workstreams, a genuine curiosity about technology, and a high emotional IQ.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of well-optimized news content
- Work with freelancers and full-time staffers contributing to news and features; this includes onboarding new hires, as well as coaching, training, and mentoring
- Collaborate and communicate with other editorial leads and with key colleagues across other departments, including SEO and Product
- Edit content for style, tone, and flow; correct grammar, punctuation, and formatting errors; conform content to in-house style
- Write great headlines and descriptions, and select compelling images to represent stories
- Use analytics and other tools to track and optimize story performance; report on weekly progress toward goals and targets
- Project manage feature packages and collaborate with the Integrated Marketing team on the packaging and launch of various features
What We’re Looking For
- 6+ years of experience as an editor of technology content
- Experience mentoring and coaching writers and freelancers
- An understanding of SEO best practices and what it takes to create content that ranks well
- Proficiency in meeting deadlines and prioritizing workloads
- A good teammate who excels in cross-functional teams
- Strong interest and passion for tech and innovation
- Fast editing skills; ability to balance strong voice, editorial quality, and performance optimization
- Meticulous organizational skills
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Must be highly adaptable and flexible; priorities change rapidly and regularly
- Must be trustworthy, committed, considerate, and a good listener
Salary Disclosure: Ziff Davis provides a range for the base pay. Factors that may be used to determine your actual pay may include your specific job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. The base pay for this position ranges from $100,000 to $110,000, plus incentive compensation (for eligible roles only), 401K with company match, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, short and long-term disability, and a flexible time off policy.
