Summary of Position This position works approximately 12 hours per week for 23 weeks during the summer seasonal period including Saturdays from May through September, or 19 hours a week for 14 weeks from the end of May to approximately the end of August.

Works under the general supervision of the Youth and/or Adult Services Librarian. Along with other Library Staff, helps plan and present programs for children, adults, and families; performs clerical work; assist library customers in the use of the library, facilities, and equipment; interprets library policies; and provides excellent customer service at the Library, the Youth Services desk and Adult Services desk.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provides patrons, as needed, with information about programs and services available in the Youth and/or Adult Department. Assists with story time, events, and classes, requiring originality, creativity, and stamina. Provides customer-focused reference and reader's advisory service, as well as instruction on use of the Library's catalog. Aids patrons on library computers and on personal devices. Assists with returning materials to the shelves. Designs and assembles displays. Interprets Library policies and procedures for the public. May perform other assignments and handle special projects as required. When assigned to Youth Division: Demonstrates ability to tactfully interact with children and their families. Assists in the supervision of Teen Volunteers. When assigned to Adult Services Division: Demonstrates ability to tactfully interact with the public. Scope of Supervision

Works under the supervision of the Youth and/or Adult Services Librarian.

Minimum Qualifications Education or Training: H.S. Diploma or GED. Some college preferred. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License. Recent experience working with children of all ages is preferred for youth position.

Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Knowledge of Library Policies. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, the general public, supervisors, and employees. Ability to use the automated Library Catalog to locate materials. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. Ability to move furniture to set-up and tear-down library events. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in using the Internet for research. Skill in providing exceptional customer service in person, by email, and by telephone.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. PUBLIC AGENCY RETIREMENT SYSTEM

Part-time and temporary employees who are not eligible to participate in the Texas Municipal Retirement System will contribute 6.2% of gross wages into their tax-deferred 457 Account. The City will contribute 1.3% of the employee's gross wage into the employee's account. Employees are 100% vested immediately in the PARS 457 Account.

MEDICARE

Employees are required to contribute 1.45% of their pay for Medicare insurance.

DIRECT DEPOSIT

The City of Watauga is a direct deposit City. The City offers the ability to deposit employees' paychecks into 6 different accounts, if desired.
