Summary of Position Works under the direction of the Senior Librarian - Youth Services providing assistance with all phases of reference services for children. Assists the Youth Services Librarian with programs for children.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assists the public in making full use of library materials and services. Provides information services to Library users such as reference and reader's advisory, and use of Library, community and interlibrary resources. Monitors public access computers, including databases, Internet and other networks. Conducts specific searches on the various databases and Internet for patrons. Provides bibliographic instruction, explaining Library materials, bibliographic records, and use of resource materials in various formats. Assists with programs, such as Summer Reading Club and weekly story times, as needed. Understands and translates the policies of the Library and the City for patrons. Assists with maintaining records, analyzes and compiles statistics on services. Participates in staff and professional meetings to discuss and act on services, needs, and problems of the Library. Understands and explains Library and City policies to patrons. Responds to requests for information using books, Internet, databases and community resources. Performs administrative and clerical support tasks such as receiving and distributing telephone calls, writing reports, sorting materials and filing when needed. Performs other job-related duties consistent with assigned division responsibilities. May perform other assignments and handle special projects as required. Works under the supervision of the Senior Librarian - Youth Services. Minimum Qualifications Education or Training: H.S. Diploma or GED. Two (2) years of experience working in customer service. Library experience is preferred. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.

Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Possible exposure to irate citizens.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of Library policies and Ordinances within the City. Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures. Knowledge of operating the following programs - MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, the general public, supervisors, and employees. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. Ability to use independent judgment and provide good customer service when explaining policies to the public. Ability to push large book trucks and carts filled with Library material or equipment. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in using the Internet for research. Skill in providing exceptional customer service in person, by email and by telephone.

PUBLIC AGENCY RETIREMENT SYSTEM

Part-time and temporary employees who are not eligible to participate in the Texas Municipal Retirement System will contribute 6.2% of gross wages into their tax-deferred 457 Account. The City will contribute 1.3% of the employee's gross wage into the employee's account. Employees are 100% vested immediately in the PARS 457 Account.

MEDICARE

Employees are required to contribute 1.45% of their pay for Medicare insurance.

DIRECT DEPOSIT

The City of Watauga is a direct deposit City. The City offers the ability to deposit employees' paychecks into 6 different accounts, if desired.
