Starting Pay: $18.91/hr After 6 Months: $19.34/hr
We also offer: Iowa Public Employee's Retirement Pension plan 14 paid holidays Paid vacation and sick time This position provides excellent customer service and is the first point of contact for the public; assists patrons with their library accounts and helps them find what they are looking for or connecting them to someone else who can help them; provides assistance with equipment and technology questions; checks materials in/out and operates automated materials handling equipment; promotes The Library when interacting with patrons; performs a variety of clerical activities; and performs various other duties as assigned.
This position may require scheduling at any library facility as well as off-site locations during days, nights, and weekends.
Examples Of Duties
Creates a welcoming environment by providing excellent customer service and maintaining the appearance of public areas. Demonstrates commitment to The Library's mission and vision by actively promoting services and resources. Communicates effectively with colleagues, patrons, stakeholders, and the community by responding to queries in a timely manner. Manages the registration and issuance of new library cards. Utilizes the integrated library system and other library software to manage patron accounts and provide access to library materials. Assists patrons with technology and self-service options. Occasionally assists with library outreach in the community. Runs statistical circulation reports and manages notices. Assists patrons with checking out and returning materials. Processes reports to pull requested items for hold. Meet patrons at their point of need by working a service point and routinely roving public areas. Processes patron payments and distributes change. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of in person customer service experience.
Knowledge and Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues and diverse groups. Demonstrated skills in customer service and the ability to effectively problem solve. Demonstrated skills in basic computer, software, and technology tools. Ability to perform, organize, and prioritize work independently. Knowledge of basic money handling principles.
