Managing Editor, Blue Earth Review - Department of Creative Arts

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION:
The managing editor of the Blue Earth Review literary journal ensures that all facets of the magazine run smoothly behind the scenes. This includes scheduling meetings, working with genre editors, communicating with contributors, regularly meeting with the faculty advisor, and working with MNSU’s Creative Productions department for printing. The managing editor can also retain their previous genre position if they so choose. Time commitment is 20 hours per week.
Job Duties include:
- Be responsible for all content in the journal.
- Continue to read and vote on submissions with other editors in your genre.
- Read and vote on submissions moved forward by genres in a timely manner (within 1 week).
- Understand all aspects of Submittable.
- Schedule at least two all-staff meetings a semester.
- Meet regularly with the faculty advisor.
- Manage and support individual genres.
- Fulfill any of the extra positions that are empty.
- Coordinate with the production manager in creating the magazine.
- Coordinate with the social media manager to deliver content posts.
- Coordinate with the operations manager on website upkeep and other back-end tasks.
- Communicate with the faculty advisor about budget, the booth at AWP, and other concerns.
- Plan and implement issue launch parties.
- Plan the annual Dog Daze Summer Contest, Minnesota Emerging Writing BIPOC award, and other contests.
- Monitor the BER email inbox, responding when necessary in a timely manner.
- Be the public face of the journal.
- Staff tables at book festivals (including AWP).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's Degree
- Have participated in Blue Earth Review as a Genre Editor for at least 1 year.
- Have an interest in editing and publishing.
- Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
- Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Organizational skills.
- Professionalism.
- Knowledge in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator; or a willingness to learn these programs.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 plus tuition stipends, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver.

Minnesota State System policy requires that graduate assistants must reside within the State of Minnesota for the duration of their appointment.
