Minimum Starting Salary:
$ 17.71 per hour
Schedule:
Full-time, 37.5-hour per week position, including at least one evening per week and alternate Fridays and Saturdays.
Position Summary:
Library Assistant II performs a wide range of off- and on-desk paraprofessional library functions. Work involves frequent patron contract; requires use of automated library systems for various clerical tasks.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED and post-secondary coursework, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency with keyboarding and filing.
Minimum of two years of library experience.
Language proficiency in Spanish, Polish, or other language spoken by library patrons is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities:
Greets visitors and assists in use of Library materials; responds to requests for assistance or referring to appropriate staff member; responds to phone calls.
Enforces rules regarding Library procedures.
Retrieves materials for patrons or other staff.
Attends meetings and/or workshops as assigned.
Performs circulation desk tasks; performs database duties as necessary, including compilation of statistics and other information for departmental utilization and running reports as necessary.
Handles circulation procedures including charging out materials during class visits, renewing deposit collection materials, opening and closing procedures.
Checks in materials, inspects for damage, makes repairs and records actions in database.
Processes damaged and missing items.
Maintains materials by reading shelves, shifting, sorting, reshelving, organizing materials in their proper sequence.
Additional duties:
Sorting notices and sending letters for damaged items.
Inputting weekly schedule into computer
Maintaining "New" shelf books
Delivering and picking up from schools and preschools
Physical Requirements
The work requires regular bending, stretching, stooping, pushing and pulling; lifting print and other materials, office equipment and supplies of up to 25 pounds and the ability to move a reasonable quantity of materials from place to place within or outside the Library. May require standing, sitting, and/or walking for extended periods of time.
The ability to travel between library branches and other locations is required.
