Architectural Designer – Origination Engineering

The Origination Team works to identify potential project sites, performs preliminary site diligence, prepares and submits interconnection application packages, interprets system studies, and manages the ever-growing pipeline of development opportunities. The output of the Origination Team is proof of commercial, electrical, and physical viability for future green energy infrastructure projects.
Role
We are seeking an experienced and visionary design professional to guide the development of Distributed Energy Resource (DER) projects in urban and suburban environments. This role requires an individual with a strong technical background in architectural design, site integration, and regulatory compliance, coupled with a passion for sustainable energy solutions. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in shaping energy storage facilities that aseamlessly integrate into the urban landscape, balancing aesthetics, functionality, and regulatory requirements.
What You’ll Do
Architectural Design and Technical Expertise
Utilize AutoCAD to create site layouts.
Perform zoning analyses and interpret NYC zoning laws as they pertain to the development of electrical generating facilities.
Incorporate familiarity with NFPA standards into project designs.
Conduct general load calculations, particularly for multi-story parking structures, to inform site feasibility and design.
Regulatory and Permitting Oversight
Advise on DOB and FDNY permitting processes, ensuring compliance with NYC and NYS building codes.
Collaborate with regulatory authorities.
Site Development and Diligence
Interpret comprehensive site diligence, including ground-penetrating radar (GPR) studies, land surveys, noise assessments, and soil testing, to determine project feasibility.
Leverage construction experience (e.g., rigging) to design projects that are buildable, serviceable, and practical for contractors.
Urban Integration and Innovation
Influence the landscape architecture of projects to include noise mitigation, strategic lighting design, and integration with the surrounding environment.
Collaboration and Leadership
Work closely with internal stakeholders, including engineers, project managers, and business development teams, to align architectural designs with broader project goals.
Participate in industry working groups to stay abreast of trends and best practices in DER and urban design.
Build and maintain strong relationships with external vendors and consultants.
Soft Skills and Organization
Exhibit excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Operate autonomously with a high level of accountability and initiative.
Qualifications
NAAB Accredited degree in Architecture.
Technical Expertise:
Deep understanding of NYC zoning laws, DOB permitting, and FDNY permitting processes.
Familiarity with NYS building codes.
Urban Design Innovation:
A passion for decarbonizing the grid and integrating energy storage systems into complex urban environments.
Creative vision for blending functional energy projects into the cityscape with aesthetic and practical considerations.
Professional Attributes:
Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
Strong organizational abilities and capacity to manage many concurrent projects.
A proactive and independent approach to work, with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

Additional Information
Compensation: $140,000 - $200,000 target salary range plus bonus.
