Purpose
As a member of the Texas McCombs Technology Solutions Team, the Audio Visual (AV) Systems Support Technician will provide customer service and counter support to faculty, students, and staff using classroom AV systems and other instructional technology, assist with classroom technology equipment setup, troubleshooting, and preparation of any equipment checkouts as well as work with other departmental staff to set up equipment for events and classroom technology installations.
Responsibilities
- Assist faculty and other users with the operation of classroom technology. Troubleshoot and identify any technical issues. Respond to any trouble calls from classrooms and conference spaces.
- Learn the conceptual design of the AV system in all classrooms and conference rooms, be aware of reset procedures in case of an issue, perform on the spot troubleshooting and if not fixable, create a support ticket for tech staff.
- May assist with annual inventory, maintaining and replacing installed AV equipment, assist in troubleshooting, assist install team when schedule permits with AV installations including running cables, hanging projectors and wall monitors.
- On occasion, may be involved with video production assignments
- Prepare classroom equipment checkouts for faculty, staff and students.
- Provide support for day and occasional evening/weekend events and classes as needed. Set up equipment, place stage furniture, tape cables, and check system functionality. Assist production staff if needed, assist presenters, and instruct event staff with operations if needed.
- Set up classrooms and/or conference rooms for lecture or remote video conference sessions and assist faculty or staff with connectivity issues. Assist with scheduling lecture capture recordings.
Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years of direct customer service experience.
- At least 1 year of audiovisual technology and/or help desk support experience.
- Basic understanding of how AV technology works, and trouble-shooting experience with Windows and Macintosh operating computers.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school graduation or GED.
- Professional experience in a fast-paced work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and as part of a team or crew. Professional experience in customer service or support roles.
- Some experience with videoconferencing, distance learning, lecture capture recording and learning management systems.
- Video recording and editing skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite, Familiarity of hand tools.
Salary Range
$45,000 annually + depending on qualifications
Working Conditions
- Works in standard office condition with repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
- Enter classrooms to troubleshoot technology issues with faculty and students present.
- Climbing ladders and lifting objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Occasional weekend, overtime and evening work to meet departmental needs.

- This is an Austin, TX-based in person and is not eligible for hybrid or remote work.
