NOTE: This position is for the 2025-2026 school year. The salary will be based on the 2025-2026 salary schedule which is not yet approved by the Board of Education. The salary listed is based on the current year's salary schedule.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Missouri Certification, K-12 Librarian/Library Media Specialist
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Education
  3. Prefer teaching experience
  4. Computer literacy in library media applications

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL: To provide all students with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety of materials that will invite intellectual growth, and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of media center resources.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Operates and supervises the media center.
  2. Arranges for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to students and teachers.
  3. Performs routine clerical duties necessary for the smooth operation of the media center.
  4. Establish and maintain a library usage schedule and library computer lab schedule.
  5. Evaluates, selects, and requisitions new media center materials to support the needs of diverse learning styles of students, MAP and other test results, GLE’s, school and district curriculum, and textbook adoptions.
  6. Administers the media center budget, input requisitions to order supplies and materials.
  7. Manage the maintenance of media center equipment.
  8. Prepares records and reports required to administer the library media program, maintain MSIP standards and state mandated Dewey-Sensitive areas.
  9. Prepares core data reporting as it relates to library media services.
  10. Supervises library paraprofessionals, student and volunteer personnel and provide training in library media procedures.
  11. Arranges book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the media center’s patrons and highlight new materials or themes.
  12. Periodically evaluate the library media materials and replace or remove obsolete and worn materials to ensure optimum use of the media center.
  13. Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all media center materials so that items can be easily located and instruct teachers and students on use of the system.
  14. Order, maintain, and circulate student magazines, professional periodicals and develop vertical files, i.e., newspaper clippings, magazine articles.
  15. Disseminate and promote new technology tools and resources to staff.
  16. Assist staff in the use of audio-visual and computer equipment.
  17. Provides teacher assistance in designing activities that help students learn to identify, analyze, and synthesize information by using a variety of media center materials and formats.
  18. Present and discuss materials with class as it relates to class assignments. For the elementary media specialist this may include book talks and reading stories to students.
  19. Provide assistance to students to encourage habits of independent reference work and to develop skills in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
  20. Participates in curriculum meetings, professional growth activities, associations, and conferences.
  21. Performs other related duties as assigned by the building Principal.
