User Interface (UI) Designer Job at DesignX Community in Arlington

Overview/ Job Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled UI Designer with a strong focus on adhering to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) style guides. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering intuitive and visually engaging designs for data visualizations, web mockups, improved user experience (UX), and executive presentations. As a UI Designer, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to create designs that align with accessibility.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design Consistency: Ensure all UI designs comply with DHS and CISA’s official style guides, standards, and accessibility regulations.
• Data Visualization: Create clear, concise, and effective data visualizations for complex datasets, enhancing clarity for decision-makers.
• Web Design: Design responsive, user-friendly web mockups that prioritize functionality and align with the needs of government cybersecurity initiatives.
• User Experience (UX): Collaborate with UX researchers and developers to enhance the overall user experience of web platforms and tools, ensuring a seamless and accessible experience.
• Executive Presentations: Design high-level executive presentations that effectively communicate complex information using clean layouts and visuals.
• Creative Cloud Expertise: Utilize Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, After Effects, etc.) to design assets and deliver high-quality visual solutions.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with developers, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure design specifications are properly executed.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a UI Designer or similar role, particularly in compliance with government or organizational style guides.
• Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, After Effects, etc.).
• Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and ability to translate them into effective, intuitive UI designs.
• Experience in data visualization, with a focus on creating clear and actionable graphics from complex datasets.
• Expertise in responsive web design principles and modern design techniques.
• Experience designing executive-level presentations, ensuring clarity and ease of understanding.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Knowledge of 508 compliance for government websites and applications.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within a team environment.

Desired Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and CISA style guidelines and standards.
• Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or similar front-end technologies.
• Familiarity with UX research and testing methodologies.

Clearance Preference:

• Active DHS/CISA suitability - 1st priority
• Any DHS badge + DoD Top Secret - 2nd choice
• DoD Top Secret + willingness to obtain DHS/CISA suitability - 3rd choice (it can take 10-60 days to obtain suitability – work can only begin once suitability is fully adjudicated)
