The New York Post is seeking a bold, dynamic Deputy Design Editor (M-F) to help lead our Design team. This role is perfect for a creative powerhouse with a sharp eye for design, strong leadership chops, and the ability to thrive on-site in a fast-paced newsroom. As the Deputy Design Editor, you’ll play a key role in shaping the visual identity of one of the most iconic media brands, ensuring our content is as striking as our headlines.

Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the design department, ensuring deadlines are met and projects are executed with precision and flair.
  2. Drive the creative vision and strategy across all platforms—print, digital, and social—to deliver bold, engaging designs that align with The New York Post’s brand.
  3. Provide final approval on high-impact projects, including cover designs, special editions, digital campaigns, and social media content.
  4. Lead, mentor, and inspire the design team, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and innovation.
  5. Bring an innovative, state-of-the-art expertise in industry trends and emerging technologies.
  6. Collaborate closely with editorial, photo, and social teams to ensure cohesive storytelling across all platforms.
  7. Ensure all digital content is optimized for mobile, web, and emerging platforms, with a strong focus on user experience and engagement.
  8. Introduce new tools, techniques, and design best practices to keep the Post at the forefront of media design.

Requirements:

  1. 6-8 years of graphic design leadership experience in a fast-paced editorial or newsroom environment.
  2. Expert proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  3. Expert proficiency with After Effects or other motion graphics tools.
  4. Strong digital-first mindset with a deep understanding of design best practices for web, mobile, and social media platforms.
  5. Proven leadership and strategic planning skills, with the ability to manage, motivate, and develop a high-performing design team in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Passion for news, sports, viral content, pop culture, and emerging digital trends.
  7. Strong typography, layout, and visual storytelling skills.
  8. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a knack for problem-solving under pressure.
  9. Willingness to work on weekends and holidays as needed.

Note: The New York Post adheres to a hybrid work model. This role will be expected to report into the office 4 days per week (subject to change depending on business needs).

Pay Range: $95,000 – $145,000
