Job Description:
The State University of New York at Fredonia invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Trumpet. This position requires demonstrated excellence in both classical and jazz/commercial trumpet performance and pedagogy, with the ability to inspire and mentor students across a range of musical genres and degree programs. Core responsibilities include:
- Teaching applied trumpet lessons and leading recital seminars.
- Coaching brass chamber music and directing jazz combos.
- Engaging in research and creative activities.
- Supporting recruitment and outreach initiatives.
Versatility is essential, as the ideal candidate will bring a passion for both traditional and contemporary approaches to trumpet performance and instruction.
This tenure-track position offers competitive salary and benefits, including participation in retirement plans. Evening and weekend work may be required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate studio lessons in both classical and jazz/commercial trumpet.
- Contribute to the development and revision of courses and curricula.
- Support student retention and success through academic advising.
- Engage in creative activity, scholarship, and/or research.
- Actively recruit for the School of Music.
- Participate in committees and provide service to the department and university.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
- Three years of teaching experience at the collegiate level or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated excellence as a performer in multiple musical genres.
- Commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in music education.
