DESCRIPTION

Non-Tenure Track Teaching Professor of Digital Photography

Join Our Creative Community: Teaching Professor of Digital Photography

The Department of Art and Design at Montclair State University is excited to announce an opening for a full-time (10-month) Non-Tenure Track Teaching Professor (NTTP) specializing in Digital Photography and Creative Digital Print Output. This is a distinctive opportunity to combine your passion for teaching with leadership in managing the Creative Print Center - a hub of artistic innovation and collaboration that shapes the academic and creative journeys of our students.

As a Teaching Professor, you’ll inspire and mentor the next generation of visual artists by teaching foundational and advanced courses in digital photography, such as ARST215: Digital Photography for Majors and ARPH201: Digital Photography and Imaging. You may also teach courses like ARST205: Photography (focused on traditional processes) or ARST206: Printmaking, depending on your expertise and departmental needs. With over 390 Visual Arts majors and 90 minors, your teaching will be central to building students’ creative vision and skill mastery.

Beyond the classroom, you’ll have the unique opportunity to lead the Creative Print Center, a vital resource for over 1,020 students across four academic programs. You’ll oversee its operations, support innovative interdisciplinary projects, and help students explore the boundaries of digital printmaking through techniques like transparency, layering, collage, and installation. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with faculty and students on public exhibitions and events that annually showcase more than 500 student artworks.

This role is more than a job—it’s a chance to create meaningful connections, shape the future of art and design, and contribute to a department that celebrates creativity, diversity, and innovation.

We’re seeking a candidate who:

  • Brings expertise in digital photography and creative digital printmaking.
  • Has a proven commitment to student-centered teaching and fostering inclusive learning environments.
  • Is eager to manage and innovate in our creative facilities, ensuring they meet a broad spectrum of curricular and artistic needs.
  • Possesses a collaborative spirit and a dedication to supporting the creative aspirations of a diverse and talented student body.
  • Is excited to contribute to the department, college and university.

The department is a dynamic community of students and faculty who share a passion for pushing creative boundaries and making a meaningful impact. As part of this team, you’ll enjoy opportunities to:

  • Work in a vibrant academic environment that values collaboration and creativity.
  • Engage with interdisciplinary projects and public programming, bridging connections across the university and beyond.
  • Shape the academic and artistic culture of a department that prepares students to thrive in the professional world.

Position is a two-year, ten-month, non-tenure track appointment, with eligibility for reappointment based on established NTTP procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The candidate must have a terminal Graduate Degree (e.g., M.F.A. or equivalent) in Visual Arts, or relevant discipline; demonstrate administrative ability; a strong record of university-level teaching excellence; a commitment to visual arts pedagogy through experiential learning and teaching, experience in student mentorship; and a significant record of work in the professional field.
