Job Purpose: In concert with Production Manager, supervise and carry out all aspects of technical theatre production and facility management for the Theatre & Dance Department. The Technical Director (TD) will teach essential courses in Stage Craft and Theatre Production with a 6-credit teaching load each semester or receive a course reassignment for design work.
Essential Functions:
- 50% - Instructional Duties
- Teach 3-credit Stage Craft class each semester
- Teach 3-credit Theatre Production/Design class or production design release, which includes: teaching production/design course content, managing, overseeing, and training students with varying skill levels in the scene shops and training/mentoring students in the use of audio and lighting equipment.
- 35% - Carry out stage carpentry
- Read and build from scale design drawings; create construction drawings from design elevations; oversee construction of scenery and stage props.
- Oversee hang and focus of lighting, projection, and audio support instruments.
- Lead load-ins, installs, set-ups, and strikes for all productions.
- Facilitate, contribute to, and guide the careful, safe, and effective construction, installation, and maintenance of scenery.
- Skilled in the use of digital design, multimedia design, video, and/or visual media systems and software.
- Consult with the Production Manager (PM) to fully understand the rules, regulations, safety procedures, and protocols to follow during the build.
- 15% - Maintain Shop and Magnuson Theatre
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional work environment; ensure the theatre environment is in compliance with safety regulations (OSHA); maintain shop equipment and purchase supplies, including scene shop tools, lighting equipment, sound equipment, theatrical rigging, repair equipment; oversee work study personnel.
- Set up, use, and maintain sound, video/projection, and lighting equipment.
- Supervise theatre spaces and provide technical support for college and community use beyond theatre productions.
- Attend tech week rehearsals and production meetings to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of mounting the production.

Educational Requirement: Master's Degree
Years of Related Experience Requirement: 3 years
In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education.

Skills & Abilities:
Stage carpentry experience; ability to maintain a safe, welcoming, and clean work environment; ability to assign tasks appropriately; read and build scale drawings; excellent verbal and written communication skills; valid driver's license; strong computer skills including CAD/Vectorworks software and Adobe Suite.
